We sold our house and rent an apartment in a village in the mountains. We can cycle or walk in the hills starting from our door with plenty more just a short drive away. The air is clean, no pollution. No house maintenance, repairs or garden to worry about. We buy mainly local produce from local shops, and everything else online. If our needs change we can move somewhere else. Currently 79, retired twenty years.

I kept putting off retirement until an illness put me into a critcal care ward for 7 days.
I will never forget that journey in the ambulance fearing that this was the end.
I never returned to work, that illness has left me with ongoing but not life threatening
issues that i am slowly recovering from.
I have to agree that retiring as early as you can makes far more sense than to continue
holding onto a job which does you no favours.
Hopefully i will have at least a few more years to get myself fit again amd enjoy retirement.

Just found your channel, and I wish it had been around for me to find before I retired 7 years ago at age 62. I'll go you one better on the introversion - I hated my job, felt sick most mornings when I had to leave the house, but slogged away at it for over 30 years because like all of us, I had responsibilities. The result is that I came away with anxiety and depression, so getting out the door to do the things you rightly advocate is difficult sometimes. I've watched a few of your videos this morning (here in Canada but I'm an ex-pat Bristolian) and you've given me a path and a program. I loved a term you used in one of your videos - "the youth of retirement" - and I want to take that in hand while I still can, for my own sake and that of my wife. I think you have changed what remains of my life today, thank you sir!

Hi. I’m 73 and only fully retired last November 2023. I’m guilty of everything you just mentioned. At 73, I was still considering working some more at a Home Depot or the Post Office. However, I started getting used to not having to get up at 4:00 AM and rush coffee and breakfast in order to get to work. Thought about reaping the benefits of working since 1968, and moving at my own pace. Still going to the gym 3 days per week, unless I feel like skipping a day and doing nothing. Your advice is well taken. Thank you!!😊🙏

I’m 53 years of age and I’ve just had a diagnosis of ASD, ADHD and Dyslexia. I’ve decided to sell off my unnecessary possessions and housing portfolio. From this I will pay off the remaining modest mortgage and downsize the house when the last of the four children have gone. I have spent 28 years working in Pre- Hospital emergency care and raising a family, it’s time I focused on me now. My health, happiness and family. Thanks for the excellent videos.

Hard work pays off in the future. Laziness pays off now! As Marcus Aurelius explained there is only the present, the future will arrive soon enough! You've got the correct pov IMHO, carry on brother!

I retired at age 39. It's been decades of relaxation and traveling.

I have a problem with self-criticism. I like the I am sheet. Thank you for your insight.

Maybe a kind and tactful reminder should be given to the college student in your family that your support stops within 6 months of graduation. Offer to pay for the deposit on their new place to live but that's it. Supporting them keeps them from growing as they should. Tough love is sometimes needed. My adult child, in middle age, told me that my refusal to co-sign for a credit card was very smart. So many of this child's friends were in deep debt in their 30's.

The worry is the currency that money was saved in for retirement.
