Israel wasn't "using" the Bf 109 "by the end of the war, " as the state of Israel did not exist until 1948. Israel did use some Czech-built Avia S-199s. The S-199 was a copy of the Bf 109, but with Junkers Jumo engines that rotated the opposite way and produced such vicious handling characteristics that the Israelis named it "the Mule."

Underrated. One of the greatest planes of all time hands down. Even P51 pilots would say an experienced Luftwaffe pilot could make a 109 perform on an equal footing to themselves. This plane was competitive until the day of surrender and was let down by the drain on manpower and loss of experienced flyers.

Not to mention my favorite Luftwaffe plane

Fact number 11; In the 1967 movie "The Battle of Britain". The ME109 used (of BF 109) were purchased as surplussed from the Spanish air force. And had been converted to use the British Merlin V12 vs. their original Daimler-Benz DB 605. You can see it if you pause the action flight and look at the exhaust position. And the fact they added two lumps to clear the rocker covers (German engines were originally an inverted V12, vs. upright British Merlin)

Fun Fact number 12: Nearly all the Arial shots were made from the only existing 2 seater ME-109. Pilot in the front, and camera man in the back. The plane was originally build as a trainer. This is before computer animation kids.

Fun Fact Number 13: The stunt pilot flight coordinator (Mr Connie Edwards) had to execute an emergency landing while filming with an engine seizure. For landing the plane safely and saving the British camera man life as well. He received an award by the Queen herself.

I got to sit in the very Spitfire shown in this video (that was also in the movie). And I will forever be grateful for Mr. Edward and his late son Tex for granting me access to this collection well before it was sold.

Fun Fact number 15. Mr. Connie Edwards also flew some very interesting missions over Cuba in the late 50's. And is true American Hero.

I love how straight forward this video is, no annoying intro, not blabbering on and on for each point, only saying what needs to be said with a few jokes here and there. Perfect.

10. Most taildraggers have this problem, arguably even more so on the spitfire
7. *top 3* well most of the top 50 fighter pilots of all time used it...
4. It couldn't really carry an effective payload, it had a low fuel capacity, there wasn't a night fighter version, they just flew it at night. Only a few of the G6/R6 variant had radar.
3. "So good everyone wanted it" Most of those countries were controlled by Germany anyways...

Kill ratio is different from Number destroyed. The aircraft with the highest kill ratio of ww2 is...…..The "worst fighter of WW2, " the Brewster "Buffalo", Model B-239 actually, an ex-US Navy plane used by the Finnish Airforce to great effect. The 109 was the best early on, but by 1943 it's age was showing.

15, 000 is just a kill total, NOT a kill ratio. The highest kill ratio for WWII aircraft goes to the F6F at 19:1

Some are the ugly Merlin powered(not a ugly engine just ugly on the 109) Spanish versions. Fun fact they were used by Spain untill 1965.

I've never seen BF109s in the air in real live until Flying Legends Airshow 2018 in Duxford. I was very surprised about its speed on low passes. I thought: 'hell.... it is actually better than the Spitfire'. The second plane i was surprised about was the Grumman Bearcat..
