My dog (toy poodle) is not treat motivated at all😫. He's 9 years old and automatically freezes once I put his leash on. I adopted him, and his previous owner never taught him. He follows me and walks right by my side 24/7. He never tries running away from me. He's very obedient. It just scared me that one day, a dog (or any animal) will come running after him, and my dog will run away out of fear. He's super sweet, smart, and a love-bug1000% and always listens, but when it comes to using a leash, it's impossible😔. Oh, I should also mention the previous owner would abuse him with whips, ropes, and cables.... that's why I've he understadably refuses to be anywhere close to a leash because it brings back flashback💔. I'm being patient and understanding with him, but again, I worry about his safety when we go out for walks. Help, please!🙏🏻. Despite what he went through for several years, He's the sweetest, most loving dog I've ever met🥲❤

No sooner than I take the first step, she squirms her head and tries relentlessly to pull away. I don't get mad or scold her. I let her calm down and we try again. Today was day one. Should I exercise the treat route with this training?
