Easiest way to flatten a cupped board

This is one of the first lessons I learned in woodworking. Easiest way to flatten a cupped board, is to cut it in half and re-joint it. Saving on valuable material that would have otherwise ended up in your dust collector.

The way I fix a cupped board, is place the board on the ground outside in the sun and then pour turpentine all over it, then I put a light to that sucker and watch it burn. after 30
mins the board is ash and the cupping is gone. works everytime. try it.

Correct me if I'm wrong. But if i rip my plank in half and run it through my planer. Each half will be flat, but they still will not be square to each other?

“The Furniture Guys” that used to be on PBS had a process of laying the board on the grass….allowing the board to absorb moisture from the ground and the
sun to draw the cup out of the board. Wish I had recorded that on my VCR back then so I could find out which way to point the cup…….

Planers don't flatten boards, they make them thinner. If you put a twisted board into a planer, you get out a thinner twisted board. Jointers are for flattening boards.

you soak the board in water then use two other flat boards to samdwich the cupped board and clamps

Dude just drill the board to another flat board, and plan it a then flip and plan the other side. You’ll have a flat side after 1-2 passes

Nah just use the planar, my customers always get pissed when I give them a table sawed in half
