John, as usual, a very condensed explanation, and personal opinion about the gear up for review. The price point is so close to some other midi keyboards, like those in the Native Instruments line. I would personally like to see you do a “Three Tier” ranking of “good, better, and best”, in every category of instruments/gear you take the time to review. Then, post those updated tiers in the links. Oh, I’ve been a musician for quite sometime, and “new isn’t always better.” You have illustrated this quite a few times already, (your love for your SL88). Keep up the great work, and take it to the next level by offering counsel in a relatable manner, with continued professionalism.💎💎💎

I just purchased the Hammer 88, & I love it. I so desperately needed something with weighted keys within budget, I know i mentioned before that I wanted the Kurzweil KM88 from your review on that, but I had to go within budget for the Hammer 88. Thank you for the comparisons of all the keyboards you put up on your channel. I look forward to seeing more of your videos

Thanks for this. It's hard to find reviews on instruments such as basses and keyboards from people who play the same music as me, so this helps out a lot and I trust your word.

Back in the day you could go to a music store and try out pretty much any instrument you wanted to purchase, no large retail chain or anyone else for that matter carries these in-store inventories.

Very good comparison. Just to let you know I've bought both the M-Audio Keystation 88 MK3 and the M-Audio Hammer 88 after watching your videos in the last six months. I used the Amazon links you provided to support your work but links to Amazon for you and just about every other US based YouTuber I've tried have not worked from where I am in central Europe (I am in Hungary). Maybe you could ask Amazon about revising the links for usage from outside the US. I really appreciate your reviews because they give an honest expectation of what I'll be getting if I buy a product you've reviewed. I don't know any other way to get the kind of information you're providing and its better than trusting the advertisements. I enrolled in a music course for piano back in January, and while the Keystation 88 MK3 semi-weighted action was very easy to play and sounded great I found that I needed the M-Audio Hammer 88 velocity-sensitive, fully-weighted hammer-action keys to get the expressiveness that the piano course was geared toward teaching. Thanks again for those in depth and informative product reviews. If I had bought the newer M-Audio Hammer 88 Pro I think the one feature that would be most beneficial to someone like me who doesn't know much would be the auto mapping feature of the controls. I bought and Akai Pro Mini MK3 and I never did have a lot of success with trying to map it to the Apple Main Stage application controls or the Logic Pro X application either.

John, could you say something about the Roland A 88 Mk2? One other thing, do you think it's worth buying the Numa Concert with Fatar 40 W? It is discontinued, but in my country (Brazil), I'm having a hard time finding other options, including the SL 88 disappeared from the market. One advantage of the Numa is that it has some tones internally, two of which are acoustic piano. My options here are being M Audio Hammer 88, Roland A88 MK2, St Logic Numa Concert and Nektar GXP 88 (this is my last choice). Maybe I can find Arturia Keykab 88, but I'm not really sure. Another important thing to mention is that, in Brazil, we pay twice as much as in the United States, because of import taxes. This makes things much more difficult. Thanks a lot for your videos. They are very useful.

I think the pro also graded and the 88 not graded action.

Hi John, are the keys graded on the 88? I believe they are on the pro, and does that make much difference? You say they feel the same, so I assume not much! Thanks.

this or studio logic sl88 studio? in terms of piano performance sensitivity because I occupy an akai mini with synthesizer sounds

Compared it to the hammer 88 non pro side by side in a music store.
They are TOTALLY different keybeds. First of all pro is graded(weighted lighter on higher notes and heavier on lower notes) on white AND black keys,
not like some other keyboards (ex. on yamaha p125 only whites are graded)
Keys feel firm and better made and than hammer88, which feels more wobbly and bouncier.
But I've read hammer88 build quality is bad and wears out in a few months. So I don't know if I could trust this 'Pro' quite yet..

Hammer keys are just for feel or can it help to create different sound (not just volume) like a real piano when pressed softer or harder? My understanding is that it's your software that produces sound then what role hammer keys play except for the feel of real piano keys? As far as sound is considered, same sound can be produced from same software or sound plugin using semi-weighted or not at all weighted keys. Please correct me if I am wrong.
