'It may be just an idle threat ... but I don't think we can ever just rely on that,' said former U.S. defence secretary William Cohen on Russian President Vladimir Putin's order to put Russia's nuclear forces on high alert.

Isn't Putin also
Let me do what ever I want, or I will fire off my nukes to anyone, who upsets me...

All Putin said to Ukraine is not to join NATO for making sure Americans and NATO is not on his backdoor. He didn't say you can't exist as a free nation. I think US and NATO are to be blamed for this fiasco that could turn into WWIII.

Maybe the hearts of his troops are not 100% in agreement with what he is demanding?

Basically from what I can tell, everybody gave Putin such a pass on Crimea, that he thought he can get away with Ukraine!

To be honest, they don’t know how he feels, nobody has had a direct conversation with him.

"He's angry they haven't completed the mission yet"?? Completed the mission? This started like three days ago! We just left Afghanistan after literally 20 years. Unfortunately, the Russians are about to unleash hell.

The world was quiet with Crimea & Georgia. Look what happened. Putin became more confident, It’ll be the same as Ukraine. He thought wrong. Zelensky is a good leader for the Ukrainans. He is courageous and must have learned from the experience of Crimea and Georgia. Putin must be held accountable not tge Russian people. The West should not be blamed! It takes two to make a decision. Putin is one and he made a bad decision.

World leaders need to work harder to provide Russia an acceptable exit that will allows Putin to save face. All sides need to be able to have satisfactory security of their borders. All sides. There has to be some solution that provides these assurances to all parties. Short of this, the world is staring directly at annihilation. Peaceful negotiations, and careful diplomacy must be restored before nuclear weapons are used.

The advisers are sitting too far away from Putin to reach him in time for a Heimlich maneuver.
