I had a very humbling experience in nursing school. I was at a nursing home and a mother and daughter were in the same room. The mother had had a stroke in the past but I did not know that at the time. I was brand new to nursing school with no prior medical knowledge whatsoever. I was talking to the patient and her daughter when the patient responded with just emphatic grunting. She gave me a look like she was all there and fully understanding me but what came out of her mouth made no sense. I thought she was playing with me at first because, mind you, I had NO IDEA anything like this was possible. I chuckled a bit and then her daughter explained it to me. I was so embarrassed and felt bad for chuckling but it was a much needed experience. They were gracious and kind to me despite what I now understand to have been very disrespectful behavior (albeit unwittingly) on my part. After that I just thought about how frustrating it must be to not be able to express your ideas in a way people can understand you. Ever since then, I have been fascinated with the brain and nervous system and how damage or deficits in any area result in specific clinical manifestations. I am in nurse practitioner school now and I want to focus on neurology as my specialty. :)

Here after hearing about Bruce Willis. Very sad. Hopefully a positive from his situation will be that it brings more attention to this condition so that more research can be done.

Some people may refer to aphasia as dysphasia. Aphasia is the medical term for full loss of language, while dysphasia stands for partial loss of language. The word aphasia is now commonly used to describe both conditions.

Important: language is not the same than speech and Aphasia is a condition in which LANGUAGE affected. Speech difficulties are common though, but it’s not a same diagnosis.

These siren sounds shud not be used in videos anymore. Especially when you are listening to these videos while driving. I just had to stop and look around for the emergency vehicles

Can Broca's aphasia be a cause of Stuttering?

Does it also affects their writing skills?

Speech Therapy is not always the main therapy. Aphasia may be due to a brain SOL which requires surgery or due to brain edema which requires brain dehydrating measures.

Also Wernicke's and Broca's aphasias does not mean you had damage directly in those areas weirdly
