Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes guilty of fraud

Disgraced former tech-billionaire and Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes has been convicted of fraud.

A California jury found she conspired to defraud investors in her blood-testing company, Theranos.

Prosecutors say the 37-year-old lied about devices – which she claimed could run a range of tests with just a few drops of blood from a finger prick.

She received millions of dollars from wealthy private investors and in 2015 became the youngest self-made billionaire.

A Wall Street Journal investigation later revealed major flaws in Theranos' technology.

The jury in San Jose this morning found her guilty of four of the 11 federal charges against her.

Ms Holmes was acquitted of four counts – while the jury was unable to reach a verdict on three others.

She was never really a billionaire. Her fortune was based on an evaluation of her company, which turned out to be worthless.
