PLOT: In this animated feature, canine casino owner Charlie (Burt Reynolds) is killed by gambler Carface (Vic Tayback), but returns to Earth from heaven thanks to the powers of a magical, rewindable watch. Charlie sets out to take his revenge on Carface by means of an elaborate plan that involves an orphan girl, Anne-Marie. But as the plan progresses, Charlie discovers that Anne-Marie is being exploited by Carface. Charlie must decide whether to change his mission from one of revenge to one of rescue.

It's just awful how Charlie was more concerned about his "business" rather than seeing the joy of Anne Marie finding a family, especially since Carface kept her hidden for who knows how long. He could have kept living if he dropped his plan and agreed with her to move in after her adoption. Itchy wouldn't be alone either.😔

Watching this movie as an adult is horrifying, especially from the perspective of the couple here. First they see this little girl at a betting track, wearing rags and alone aside from her two dogs. Then she randomly returns to your house with your wallet walking about how she lives alone in a junkyard with just her dogs.

At this point, you have no idea what is going on, just that you cannot allow this child to just leave your house. And then she does and you have no idea where she is or who took her. The next time they see her, she's half dead.

That line always gets me. The SHAMELESS guilt slinging, rubbing salt in the wound that he made by making it seem like he'd die without her. Hilarious! XD

This can be seen as emotional manipulation, as Charlie tricks Anne-Marie by telling her that she doesn't need him anymore and it is thanks to this manipulation, that Anne-Marie returns to Charlie to win more money in bets.

Charlie had the opportunity to be adopted and live in Anne-Marie's house, but he declined, stating that Harold and Kate would not keep a stray dog in her beautiful house. The movie would have taken another direction, if Charlie had told Anne-Marie about why he is selfish, cheating and a liar, he would have explained that he had a sad childhood, being an orphaned puppy without love and nobody, and that would be the explanation of why Charlie uses deceit and manipulation and shows false affection to others, since he himself never experienced affection from anyone, since to survive he has to use deception and manipulation to get money and live.

Angel Dust is eating some breakfast with Carmilla and her daughters after he returned their wallet Charlie had stolen from them.

Angel Dust sees Charlie hiding in the flowers

Angel Dust: Charlie? Charlie wait up *he follows after her*
Later Charlie and Angel Dust are walking by the Cannibal Town market unknown to them Valentino and Sir Pentious were watching them to try to kill Charlie again.
Valentino: Alright a little little more to the left I don't want to hit Angel Dust now steady steady hold it hold it
*Sir Pentious' ray gun glows red as it locks on Charlie aiming for her*
Valentino: *evil grin* And goodbye Charlie
Sir Pentious' Ray Gun shoots Charlie in her chest multiple times.
Charlie:
Angel: *gasps in horror* OH NO CHARLIE
Valentino: I GOT HER
Charlie coughs as Angel comforts her.
Angel: Charlie Charlie
Charlie quickly feels around her chest realizing she wasn't dead
Charlie: My watch it saved me Angel Dust come on we gotta get out of here *she ran carrying the Spider Demon*
Valentino: SHE'S GETTING AWAY FIRE *shoves Sir Pentious causing his Ray Gun to go haywire as it shoots everywhere*
Charlie ran protecting Angel as she avoids the ray gun beams
Valentino: MORONS I'M SURROUNDED BY MORONS
Sir Pentious: *stammering* How do you stop this thing?
Later in a hiding place Charlie and Angel Dust come out
Charlie: Angel you ok?
Angel: Oh Charlie I thought they shot you and killed you
Charlie: *sighs in relief* So did I so did I Angel but Valentino has no idea who he's dealing with I'm gonna get him and there ain't nothing or nobody that's going to stop me
*Charlie suddenly feels loose boards under her feet nervously*
Charlie: *nervous* Angel Dust walk softly walk softly.
However the floorboards break under Charlie and Angel Dust and Charlie falls screaming losing her life watch off her neck in the process and Angel Dust grabs hold of something screaming as well as he falls too
Charlie and Angel:
*Water splashing*
Charlie: *feels around her neck horrified gasps in horror* MY WATCH WHERE'S MY WATCH?
Angel Dust: Charlie where are we?
Charlie: I don't know Angel we gotta find my watch *frantically searching in the water*
Angel: It's probably in the water
Charlie: *horrified* What? *She desperately tried to find her life watch* No no no no no
Charlie's Life Watch: *ticking somewhere*
Charlie: Wait listen Angel Dust
Charlie's Life Watch: *stops ticking*
Charlie gasps in horror thinking her life watch stopped ticking.
Charlie: Oh no no it stopped *thinking she's dying and she lays down in the shallow water*
Charlie: *weakly and sadly* Goodbye goodbye Angel Dust
Angel Dust: Goodbye? Charlie where you going CHARLIE?
Charlie's red and silver pocket life watch floats by and Charlie opens her eyes realizing she wasn't dead again and sees it.
Angel: *panicked and grabs her* CHARLIE
Charlie: Hey there it is what's happening? Oh my goodness Angel I think we're haunted

Can we talk about THIS scene, it was Insanely wild! Charlie literally got shot multiple times by freakin' lazers.
If he never died, he would of definitely been dead right then and there!
Its an good thing The Watch also demonstrates to us of how Charlie's extra/tricked time on Earth still means hes "Dead/Alive" if that makes sense.

Let's be honest, Carface is one of the most cruelest and incredible portrayal of an Villian ever in a cartoon.

Am I the only one who thought the reason Charlie was coughing, was because he was suffering allergies from the flower. Not because he was dieing or pretending to die? I don't know I was 6 when I came to that conclusion.

I kinda wished Don Bluth could had added a couple land before time Easter eggs in this movie

The story I heard is that Killer’s Flash Gordon ray gun was meant to be a real sub machine gun, to push the boundaries of what goes in animated movies. But in the end it was made into a laser weapon since those seem to be more acceptable in cartoons. Maybe because the violence feels less realistic.
