Now that generative fill is available it is by far the best method that I know of. It can really do amazing things like filling complex patterns and textures, it is also context aware and can understand nuance, to some degree. Content aware was a nice feature 5 or so years ago when it was released but it is pretty much trash now in comparison.

The traces along the edge can be removed by adding a radius to your selection... Super easy... It's what you did for like, the past 10 years of photoshop

I just "grow" the selection by few pixels before doing the content aware fill to avoid getting those borders
