Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Counsellor: What Is The Difference?

Показать описание
In this video I will explain what the difference is between Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Counsellors and Therapists.
Most of the titles that people use in the field of therapy and counselling are unprotected and unregulated. This means that anyone can use them. They do not indicate any particular level of qualification or training. Examples of unprotected and unregulated titles include: Therapist, Counsellor, Psychotherapist, CBT Therapist.
A Psychiatrist is medically trained and regulated by the General Medical Council (GMC). Psychiatrists are qualified to diagnose and prescribed medication to treat mental illness, they are not trained to offer talking therapy.

** MORE ABOUT ME **
I am the Lead Clinical Psychologist at The British CBT & Counselling Service and find that I am often the first person with whom my patients share significant and intimate thoughts and memories. I feel at ease being a therapist, I feel I can empathise with people’s distress and discomfort but don’t feel overwhelmed by it, I can understand their problem and know how to help, it has always just felt like what I should be doing.
