Mt Shasta is stunningly beautiful. Pictures don’t do it justice. It dominates the surrounding countryside like no other landform I’ve ever seen.

Shasta and its surroundings is jaw-dropping beautiful. Plus there's lots of X File-level High Strangeness there. Thanks, GeologyHub!

Living in Shasta County, smack center between Shasta and Lassen, we very much appreciate this in depth information about Shasta. Happy Holidays.

Shasta is incredible. I absolutely adore it there. It's such a beautiful part of the country. Having said that, I'm glad that I live in a part of California well enough away from it that I don't need to worry about it too much.

Lived near Shasta for the last 26 years, it’s an amazing mountain. There’s another volcano nearby, Medicine Lake. It’s a massive Shield Volcano, I went camping up there once. It has some amazing geology and topography. The entire Modoc Plateau is an amazing place.

It is amazing how the different volcanoes in belts can have such different personalities from each other even though they have the same subducting plate as their origin.

Hello geologyhub, fyi, since you have been focusing on features in the area for a while: the SE corner of Klamath Lake freezes more slowly than the rest of the lake and is often in the winter covered with a foggy haze. The city of Klamath Falls also has many buildings heated hydrothermally. Also, there is a greenhouse farmer south of town who has a very hot water well. He runs the water through a truck radiator to keep his greenhouses warm in the winter.

That teeney tiny hot spring is very cute. Hope it doesn't get bigger.

True story about Shasta: about 15 years ago, I was eating in a Diner in Yreka, CA, and randomly asked the waitress how she felt living in the shadow of a stratovolcano that had once suffered a massive flank collapse that had fallen in Yreka's direction.

"Oh, I don't worry about it. They say it can't erupt so long as there's snow on top of it."

Possible video topic: that odd, sort of wayward eastern Cascade range, comprising Medicine Lake, Yamsay, Newberry, and Simcoe volcanic complex. What's the deal with that?

I fondly remember seeing Mt. Shasta as a little kid for the five years my dad was stationed at Kingsley Field air base in Klamath Falls Oregon, when he was in the Air Force, and passing by it during the road trips to my grandparents house in Southern California.

Seeing how visible, and dominant Mt. Shasta is on a clear day in Klamath Falls, I wonder what the scenery would look like in that area if Mt. Mazama hadn't collapsed forming Crater Lake. Then you would have Mt. Shasta clearly seen from the south, and Mt. Mazama dominating the view to the north of Klamath Falls.
