Wednesday's launch was aborted for safety reasons related to the weather, these launch rules apply to every rocket regardless of whether they have a crew or not. However there were extra measures taken which are specific to crewed launches and it's worth discussing some of these while we wait for the weekend.

Here's a couple of articles on the Abort Modes:

It's amazing to think that 10 seconds are the difference between landing off the coast of North America and landing off the cost of Europe...

If "Pad Ninja", or the equally cool "Number Ninja" some have put forth, doesn't become an actual title I will be greatly disappointed in SpaceX and NASA

Those astronauts are like jeb and bob being launched on a rocket with 24 solid rockets and no parachute then me feeling bad and allowing them to go back to the vab

Shannon Airport was an emergency landing runway for Shuttle (for ISS destination launches) - the name "Shannon Abort Zone" is a bit of a hold-over from Shuttle era. Though, yes, rescue crews would depart from SNN

You know besides the obvious connection with the outfits calling them ninjas I think it's apt in that they are there in the background protecting and assisting the astronauts ensuring their safety and the safety of the mission.

Also I really really hope SpaceX will release a version of those outfits for the public they are really neat

When Scott Manley said, "after all it's very hard to look cool when you are being outclassed by a squadron of elite Space X pad ninjas", I died. 10:56
