We have basically two types of the slope intercept form of equation of line -
1. Slope Intercept Form of Equation for X- Intercept
2. Slope Intercept Form of Equation for Y - Intercept
In the video lesson we discuss the slope intercept form of equation of line for having y intercept.
The general form of slope intercept form of linear equation is :
y = mx + c
Here m is representing the slope of the line and C is representing the y intercept made by the line in either positive or negative y axis. And the x, y are the common or general point of the line .
10. Slope Intercept Form of Equation of Line -- This Straight Line Video Lesson deals with derivation of slope intercept form of equation of line. If we know the slope of a line and the one point lying in the line, then any time we can find the equation of the line using the formula ,
Y -- y0 = m ( x-x0)
Here m = slope of the line and (x0,y0) point which lie in the line, whose equation we need to find.
To derive this equation -- Slope intercept form , we simply use the trigonometry basics, tangent ratio concept. We know that, in right angled triangle, tangent is the ratio of perpendicular over the base, and base is x coordinate value while perpendicular(opposite) is the y axis value. And slope of the line is m, and just by exchanging and cross multiplying we can derive the slope intercept form of equation, Y -- y0 = m ( x-x0)
