How do you think will Ippo return to the ring?

Kamogawa was kind of a self destructive boxer himself when he was younger, so I get why he missed the signs that Ippo needed to stop. This kid is still a hero for me, I'll trust that the writer will give him his chance to shine once more.

It's not too late, it's not like Ippo is no where near world class level. I believe that if he works on defense, he will be a monster in the ring.

After his comeback and with the new knowledge that he gained throughout his time as a second I'd actually like to see Ippo take on a more dominating role. Not over the top, but more flexible in his style with a huge variety of techniques and knowledge.
Of course he should still struggle a little to take his opponents down, but it would be nice to see Ippo keep his cool a little more and not get pummeled by everyone he faces.

That doesn't mean that he shouldn't get punched anymore, just that he doesn't look like he headbumped a truck after the first few rounds of every match.

He could also improve his dempsey roll to a point where his movement is not limited from side to side and up or down, but also back and forth and maybe even with some abstract movements that allow him to use it in outfighting too.
Kind of like a dempsey roll that he could constantly use, truly infinite.

The fact that ippo can parry sendo's jab means that every single opponent ippo will face in the future will cry inside the ring with him

I think that discovering the dempsey roll is kinda a double-edged sword for Ippo. True, it increased his offensive powers and all, but in return he had forgotten is bread and butter style, "the slip past the jab and lay on it thick". That style was the one that made a Ippo a rookie champion. Also, he uses his left on that style most of the time. He became overly-reliant on the dempsey to the point that most of his post-date matches we're all "finding the timing to land the dempsey roll" or "use the dempsey combo (liver shot, gazelle and dempsey). But now, post-retirement, Ippo found new perspectives and ways on how to minimize taking damage. also he continues his daily lift with wrist and ankle weights. So. If ever Ippo will comeback, he will be a God and a force to reckon with

The fight that changed this series was when Takemura fought the bear.

There are 2 key factors to Ippo's return to the ring. The first is what Takamura asked Ippo a long time ago, which was if he was able to cross the line in the dirt that separated the normal people from the monsters of the boxing world. The second factor is Miyata. As we've seen, Ippo has crossed the line and turned into a monster exactly 1 time in the manga. When his new students disrespected to coach and decided to fight some kids on the street. Kids they were bullying. Ippo literally turned into a demon as he slapped them and nearly broke their jaw. His ability to bring the monster out is tied directly to the Coach. The same goes for Takamura, who realizes that Kamagawa is nearing the end of his life, which is why he's trying to conquer the weight classes. So how does Miyata fit into all of this? Its like you said, Miyata was Ippo's goal, but they decided not to fight and it has been a detriment to both of their careers. To make matters worse, Miyata got a late growth spurt, and is no longer able to reasonably stay in Ippo's weight class, despite struggling to do so. This gives 2 routes for Ippo's return to the ring.

The first is for Ippo to get spurred on by finally realizing that Coach Kamagawa doesn't have much longer to live. He will decide to defeat Martinez, who at this point will have likely defeated Sendo, possibly even ending his career. Ippo could become the feather weight chamption, and face Miyata as a challenger in a title defense, which would pose Miyata as the underdog.

But personally, I like the second route. Miyata moves up to the Light weight class, and becomes the world champion. Takamura takes several more belts, all the way up to Super Heavy Weight. Sendo will likely still lose to Martinez. Takamura will ask Ippo for a favor, to get more belts for the Coach, because lets face it, Kamagawa deserves all the belts he can get. Ippo will take Takamura up on this challenge because not only will it lead to him fighting Martinez as a feather weight, but Miyata as a Light weight. I like this route so much because it will send Ippo on a weight class conquering journey, and allow him to fight old favorites again, such as Mashiba, Volg, and possibly even Sendo who may change weight classes after losing to Martinez.

This fight is one of my favourites in the manga. Most action series don't have the balls to commit to what it means to fight the second best. Not the best. The *Second* best. This is what it means to be right behind the very best. Ippo is our protagonist but gets shut out cleanly with good outboxing, counter-punching, and timing from Gonzales. This guy isn't even the best in the world, but it shows the realism of the story by having Ippo take a serious loss from him. Not only is Ippo far away from the best, he's pretty far away from being second best. It's just awesome and makes the audience want to root for Ippo even more. It's these little "Metanarratives" that Morikawa is able to weave into his stories so seamlessly that make it all the harder to believe that Ippo beat Wally.

I like Wally. I think he's an interesting character in Hajime no Ippo's landscape as a story. But I think he should have either been toned down so it made sense that Ippo beat him, or have Ippo lose to Wally. Because the way the fight went it was so blatantly farcical. I hold Morikawa to higher standards for these kinds of "Power Level" inconsistencies because he does it better than pretty much every other Shounen Manga out there easily.

Love Ippo, though. One of my absolute favourite stories. Just had to get my thoughts out there.

Ippo needs a desire to take the world title

The lastest chapters have Ippo learning southpaw that will eventually lead him becoming a switch hitter. Combined with his vastly improved parrying ability from coaching with mitt work, we'll seem vast improvements in the holes of defense ability and unpredictability. The area that hasn't been addressed is his mentality. Ippo loves to improve himself and that's been on display through out the arc and even in the spars he's had. HOWEVER that's not what's going to help him overcome the high levels of the world. Personally, I think it's going to have to be he wants to prove that HIS style of boxing will work. Using a foundation where his students have success with his style/coaching but will hit a wall due to the natural holes in Ippo's old style. He'll start to shore those up but then realize he needs to test the holes and then realize he has the answers. Show that the holes are covered and give him some insprirate to want to prove his style again + Kumi finally being supportive of Ippo's love for boxing and he can finally step back in the ring.

Right now ippo is definitely a world class fighter. What was amazing was when volg became a world champion. He asked ippo to help prepare for his title defense. He asked ippo not to hold back. And ippo who has been working as a coach and a second for the gym, thinks he has a lot of ring rust. So he he tries really hard to repay back volg when volg showed him the counter to the dempsey roll. And to volg surprise ippo was able to keep up with him a current world champion. Which made him question why ippo even retired. And by the end of the sparring match i believe ippo even broke one of volgs ribs and sendo had to stop the two from fighting even further. And now mashiba is struggling to prepare for his title match. And the way the manga set it up. Mashiba is going to need ippo help to prepare. And even showed how quickly ippo mastered the south paw stance to help mashiba since the champion is a south paw. The current ippo definitely has more fundamentals and skills and knowledge. And will verse in everything. Even countering since hes been training everyone and catching mitts with everyone. Ippo will come back as a beast. Just dont know what will be the trigger for him to come back. I think his mother or kumi is gonna have to push him or ask him.

Mashiba's world title match and Ippo sparring with him to prepare for the fight will be an eye opener for him.
Sendo doesn't feel the need to fight Ippo anymore as he did before, so in retrospective the only 2 matches left for him are against Ricardo and Miyata.
I belive that fighting Miyata first will help him re-ignite the passion for the sport that drove him to begin boxing.

Currently rereading the manga for the second time. It still hurts witnessing his last battle with Guevara, realizing he might be broken (which he's not btw). I'm so hyped for his comeback, he's most likely be performing insanely good now that he have studied and rested very well.

I think that Ippo can definitely come back as stronger. We saw him in his spar with Volg : training others has taught him invaluable techniques and is allowing him to defend even against very precise attacks like the White Fang (granted Volg was at the peak of his weight conditioning and therefore wasn't nearly as fast as he could be, but it's widely different from when Ippo just rushed in and hoped to connect something) it shows he's now able to parry punches accurately, if he combines this with his speed and strength, he will certainly be able to fend off jabs and manage to get in much easier. Especially with the perfected Dempsey Roll.

I think the moment Ippo took some serious brain damage was against Kojima which rattled Ippo's brain then Alfredo & Guevara also rattled his brain. Ippo vs Alfredo one of the best fights in the manga (peak boxing & peak emotional moments). When Ippo lost again against Guevara I remember how depressed & tears coming out of my eyes when Ippo was shown to be "broken". Im confident Ippo will return stronger and with better boxing techniques, defense and awareness. Hopefully Ippo will know the answer of what it means to be strong after his fight against Ricardo.

It was very satisfying to see Sendo beating the sh!t outta Alfredo making him quit boxing entirely afterwards, and i think what's going on with Ippo is 100% psychological, like Takamura told him, as long as he can't cross the line between being a boxer and being a monster, he'll never reach world level, and that's what we're getting with those new chapters, and god only knows if the mangaka will ever make Ippo cross that line or not

With all the work he's been putting in since retirement, he's ironically been a better competitor without even trying to have a match! His mindset, his form, his strength! Monstrous! You can tell almost every fan is just begging to see this man get back into the ring and the foreshadowing isn't even subtle anymore!
