The funny fact is that, through all these years I've lived in Tokyo (over 10 years), I've seen more Japanese people doing those things than foreigners.

I got yelled at by an old lady for the bike parking one time, but I literally had to get off the bike and try to find a bathroom or I would have peed in my pants, so I just had to take the abuse and apologize because I knew there was literally no other option I could have chosen.

I wish my country had the littering policies you guys have. It's so frustrating to see people throw so much rubbish wherever.

When you get the food, where do you go to eat it? Do you go back to your place or is there designated areas?

I've always found wierd that the designated smoking areas could be indors. In Brazilian law it's illegal to smoke in any fully or partially enclosed collective spaces, be them public or private, aswell as in open spaces of collective gathering like bus stops and parks of any kind

There is still a lot of rubbish tipped in Japan in out of sight areas, I live in the countryside and Forest roadsides and rivers are targeted for mass dumping sites, even Japanese people will drive out of the city and dump it at night, it will get blamed on gaijin even though they cannot drive. It’s not as clean as you think, just a facade. There are real problems with litter in japan because getting rid of old house items cost money to take to a ‘clean center’ (recycling/garbage plant), it can cost a lot and is based on weight there are a lot of houses completely filled up with luggage because of this 😅

As a cyclist, I'd be a little concerned about parking in rural areas (compared to a city)
... since cycling would be even more vital to traveling
... and there may not be as many designated parking options
... AND rural residents can sometimes be more temperamental about ettiquette

Most of.these make sense, but 1) tourists need to occasionally eat while standing because they are not following a regular home routine, 2) sitting on sidewalks or ledges i do not understand. Seems like there is no victim.

The removal of trash cans from streets and train stations happened in 1995 with the Aum Shinrikyo subway sarin gas attacks. Trash cans were removed to prevent terrorists from placing explosives in them. To this day, train station announcements claim "we are currently tightening our security procedures." In fact, the tightened procedures have been in place for almost 30 years and show no signs of ever being relaxed.

Where should you eat the food bought in food markets then? I struggled with this so much!

I loved how clean Japan was when I was there. No litter anywhere

I've done 3 out of 5. Really only regret the littering one. Didn't know about the lack of trash cans, wasn't equipped to deal with it. Somewhere in Kyushu there's a popsicle stick in a bush.

Hi Shogo! Greetings from Brazil!
So, i met your channel a few months and started loving Budo and Japanese Culture, and become a Kendo trainee and katana lover. I watched your video about not making custom katana, so i went to Liberdade, wich is a neighbourhood in São Paulo that has the largest japanese population out of Japan, and is full of Katana Shops and Japanese Culture, then i bought my first katana.

Also, you should visit here, it is full of Katana Shops and Japanese Culture.
Thank you for reading

I live in Japan and ngl I’ve seen bikes parked in front of shops where there’s no designated area for them. I’ve also definitely eaten while walking before too. 😂 Gaijin much? Yes, of course. 😂

Beside "eating while standing on the streets" I also agree people shouldn't do these acts. I guess not liking people who are "eating while standing" is a cultural difference, which I respect.

So you can't eat the street food on the street? But... there's so much! Do you just buy boxes and carry them all home? I thought you'd eat it while you wander to the next stall?

Does this mean my dream of Street Food Tours of Asia is basically a crime?
