To divide 16 by 3/4 we can either multiply the first fraction by its reciprocal OR we could find a common denominator for both fractions. In this video we'll use the reciprocal method. Both methods produce the same answer in fraction form.

First we change 16 ÷ 3/4

to

16 times 4/3 (16 x 4/3)

This gives us 64/3 which is equal to 21 1/3 (Twenty-one and one-third).

So 16 ÷ 3/4 = 64/3 also written as 21 1/3.

Note that if you multiplied 64/3 times 3/4 you would end with 16.

Multiplying a fraction by its reciprocal is often easier for more complicated fractions where finding a common denominator is more challenging.
