Shari says when she runs out of her free-play money, she hits the ATM and has spent as much as $6,000 in one gambling session. She says she has taken out money from her 401K, has numerous loans and credit cards, and has pawned jewelry and purses to get money to feed her addiction. Now, $90,000 in debt, the grandma is living with her son and daughter-in-law because she can’t afford a place of her own.

“I have hid the fact that I withdrew so much out of my 401K from my family and my children out of embarrassment,” Shari says. “If I knew how to stop it, it wouldn’t be a problem.”
