The main problem is the player can basically only have one army for a while and that's not enough to face off three different enemies, even if you tried to go for a early second army, a generic leader with a stack of spear men can't take on an angry one eyed cow, a plague spreading doctor and vlad daddy

While the Empire DOES endure, I will say it is always depressing having to micromanage the elector counts, just to see them get killed again by beastmen.

god, I just barely managed to scrape by the early game on hard as Karl, and it was only sheer dumb luck that the brettonians not only decided *not* to take over Marienburg, but simply sack it and leave it open for me to take, from then on it was smoother sailing, and farming good relations with the minor empire factions via returning their settlements to them whenever they got deleted by the endless fucking hordes of chaos and vampires

Yes, it's massive suffering for the first several turns but then, as you build alliances and slowly strengthen your borders and chokepoints you start taking it back. You get confederations, you get stronger units, you start pushing the darkness back. With steel, gunpowder, and faith you drive back the orks, the ogres, the beastmen, the vampires, the chaos warriors, and the demons and you see just how powerful you can be with enough push. It feels amazing.

just got the game this christmas, loved watching everything north of Reikland being the Chaos Wastes 2.0 by turn 10 and watching the elves, dwarves, and kislev colonise everything while I wage death wars with them because even when I offer 50k gold they refuse to sell me Grenzstadt because of its 'eCOnmiC vAluE'

I once saw a game where every count was killed by the vamps except reikland and the AI somehow came back and rolled the vamps and strolled through Norsca.

Recently I tried something as Karl Franz. How about trying to befriend the vampires. It took some time and declaring a lot of war against other empire factions and paying bribes to Vlad, but now I'm allied with Vlad, very high friendship and funnier is, after I became ally with Vlad, the dwarfs wanted to be my friend and after that all the Empire and Bretonnia factions too.
Now it's on against the wood elves and the orcs.

You've just got to be aggressive, take Reikland swiftly, capture Helmgart, recruit a new lord and a few units to help the garrison against Grom and then beeline to Middenland to kill the doctor and the goat.

It's part of why I went with Balty G for my recent Empire campaign. It's my first IE run with the Empire and whenever I played as other factions I would see Reikland get annihilated within the first 50 turns or so. I beelined for Sylvania and wiped out the VC but Festus still destroyed Middenland and Talabrcland before I could get up there.
