Verse in question: “You shall not make any cuts on your body for the dead or tattoo yourselves: I am the Lord” (Leviticus‬ ‭19:28). Notice the ban is on cutting yourself for the dead, not tattooing yourself for the dead.‬

We as Christians must be very careful what we teach, because we'll be held accountable for everything that we tell others. I would hesitate before answering certain questions and really seek the Holy Spirit before telling people certain things on a potentially sinful subject. Not saying that IP is wrong here, but the only reason Christians want tattoos so bad is that it's very popular in the world. God wants us to be set apart from the world - that's in both the old and the new covenants. I'd be cautious to put these on my body. My temple belongs to God. Yes, I know people won't like this answer, but there's nothing wrong with saying we must be careful and obey what the Holy Spirit says FIRST.

I agree, I really don’t think the Bible is completely against tattoos, but at the same time I would be very skeptical when getting one. A tattoo is something that is permanently engraved onto your skin which is quite hard to remove, so I will probably warn against getting them.

I got a tattoo after kicking my drug habit. It was to remind me of the evil that comes out of me when I use. What others saw was a dragon ripping out of my arm, and as I distanced myself from that life, I got tired of explaining it. Also, tattoos weren't popular then, so I got a lot of unflattering comments and other annoyances with it. I had it removed 5 years after getting it. I should've known better than to get it.

This is a personal issue for each. It is between them and God. We need to be saving our fights for things that actually affect our salvation. This does not. I had tattoos before being saved and have covered them with ones that show my faith in Christ. All of my tattoos honor Jim and remind me who I belong to. When He returns I will get a new body and they will be gone. Sharing the gospel with the lost should be our first priority because He is coming back soon and God cares more about our salvation then what tattoos we did or did not get.

If it causes others to stumble.. it is a sin

Definitely no way I could ever get tattoos. I Already struggle with independence and prideful thinking. Tattoos to make me more physical attractive would just pump up my ego more. The last thing I need is to give myself more temptation at this point my life.

There’s also some christian cultures that have tattoos as part of their tradition, like in northern Ethiopia and Eritrea

"Can" or "Should"?
But I agree so long as it's "appropriate" and I would say modest, too.

People who say you can't get tattoos because of Leviticus don't understand that the law is fulfilled.

I didn’t know about that verse in Isiah, because I have some God glorifying tattoos that I want to get, and that helped affirm my decision.

I want to get a cross tattooed as a reminder to carry my cross daily, but not sure if it's the right thing to do

Correct but I would add this..

Even if your getting a “Good tattoo” it’s cool but it goes much deeper than that.

1. Following senseless trends
2. Get a tattoo to feel accepted, cool or even “hard looking”? Dig deep into your intentions
3. Some ppl enjoy the pain of it.. it goes back hurt or trauma from the past .. look into it

I’m not against tattoos just be wise in your decisions

It says right in the Bible that Jesus himself had a word written on the inner part of his thigh. I have a bunch of tattoos as well as two bold crosses on the top of my hands. God still loves me

It begs the question: what is the line on appropriate?

For me tattoos aren't a matter of whether or not the Bible prohibits, but rather whether or not my wallet does. I just haven't been able to justify the cost. Neither, have I had a need of some words or image permanently tattooed to my skin. I guess instead of tattoos my thing is scars. Scars from boating, fishing and kite-boarding. They're my battle-wounds and I'm proud of them.
