Personally, I believe in mediums. I went to one and she told me I was going to die. That was about 6 years ago, but I totally still believe her. I am going to die. It runs in my family. My great grandfather and my grandfather both died. There is NO WAY she could have known that.

My dad once got a free palm-reading session. The psychic did a cold reading and asked him for details. All my dad said was: "Why do I have to tell you? Isn't your job to get that information from my palm?"
And then the psychic was suddenly unable to read palms for his session.

My dad wasn't fooled, but his coworker left moved and was crying after the session. It's really sad to see people fooled out of their money like this.

I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about hot reading. Hot reading is when you do previous research on the soon-to-be-victims and make it seem like you're obtaining info through ghosts (or whatever). Hot reading is especially common in tv shows, where the psychic has plenty of time to research.

One of my friends was heartbroken after a guy just disappeared, early into their relationship. She went to a psychic, and asked me to come with her for comfort. Psychic read your fortune in a coffee cup. Unemployed woman. Anyway, she tells my friend that the guy will come back, he's not cheating on her, he has a family problem. One year later - she finds out he had left her for another girl, no family problem.
The psychic begged me to let her read my fortune as well. I did for fun. Here's how she did the cold reading.
Psychic: "The phone call you have just received was from a close friend."
Me: "No"
Psychic: "your boyfriend then?"
Me: "No."
Psychic: "A family member?"
Me: "Yes."
Psychic: "The family member called you about some money problems."
Me: "No."
Psychic: "Health issues?"
Me: (already giggling): "Yes".
Psychic: "You are in love with a man whose name starts with the letter: M (no), P (no), N (no), A?"
She got the 4th one right, and she was already sweating by then. It was hilarious! My friend trusted her - that was not funny.

Fun fact: Harry Houdini spent a good portion of his later life debunking mediums, psychics, etc. And, if I remember correctly, he told people he was close with there would be a "password" for them to know he was actually being contacted from beyond the grave after he died.
