You may never have a water catastrophe like a burst pipe in your home. But if you do, you can't afford to waste precious minutes searching for the main water shut-off valve. That’s why it’s crucial for every homeowner to know where this device is and how to use it. The first thing you need to do is find your water meter, as the main water shut-off valve is usually close to it. The meter's location can vary; in colder regions, where pipes could freeze in the winter, the waterline usually enters through the floor of the foundation. Locate the line entering your home, follow that line, and you’ll find the water meter. Keep following it and you will see the shutoff valve; to stop the flow of water turn the valve clockwise. In warmer climates the shutoff valve is likely just outside the house and newer outside faucet. In newer homes you’ll find a velvet looks like this. To turn off the water move the valve handle to a horizontal position older homes may have a valve like this, to turn off the water turn the valve clockwise until it stops, if it’s more convenient you can happen inside shut off valve installed it might save you time and money in the event of a burst pipe because there’s no standard location for main water shut-off else you may have to do a little searching to find yours once you find it, make sure everyone in your family knows where it is. You need help finding your water shutoff give us a call will be happy to locate it, high-tech like this able to remember where it is.

You saying that simple if you live in a cold area it will be coming from the ground saved me so much time on finding it. All the other videos I looked at did not have this simple tip that helped me. Ty

It's long overdue that it was made compulsory to have multiple Mains Water Shutoff valves around a house and that info be communicated to every new occupant to prevent damage. Nice clear video, no waffling. Yeh.

Thanks fam. I am from west texas and the shut off valve is outside under a lid in the ground. I recently visited my sister in Columbus Ohio and her house is way different. It's a 2 story and I checked outside but couldn't find it. It is indeed behind a little door that would be the entrance under the house.

I cannot find a water shutoff in my home here in Florida and the main shutoff in the ground (the one you need the key to turn off) is in the off position but the water is still flowing.
It is flowing slower but I cannot replace my faucet unless I can shut it completely off. What can I do about it? Is this done by my local city utilities?

You know it's a housing and plumbing video when you have cheesy acoustic music in the beginning.

I bought a home. 1985. The water shut off valve turned fine on closing day.
But the first day I move in the valve only turns a little in either direction. On closing I signed the water into my name in the town, but my home is in the county. Why would my shut off valve stop working like that? It's not old looking and it worked fine

I have a leak in my bathtub faucet right now..looked all over in the basement (We have a fully finished basement done prior to buying the home) and found what seemed to be the main water shut off valve and it doesnt turn the water off...at all. I am at a loss of how to change over the leaky faucet without turning off the water

My townhouse community of 340 units only has two meters for entire development and not in or by our townhouses. Our main valves are in the crawl space. I'm trying to find my curb stop but it's possible I share one with the connected townhouses to mine as there are two large water openings in the pavement behind our garages that our water utility accesses. We cannot find any separate curb stops.
