The baby card just doesn't show you the protective mother creature that is auto included in the stats

Displacer Beast: I bounce myself and, idk, I go into a dungeon or something.

Displacer Kitten: I heard you wanted to flick something? Or going infinite? Idc, let's do it anyway

Hey now, the bear cub explains why it has the same stats in its flavor text. It’s really the mother cub right behind it in its art you have to watch out for.

Who would win?
A towering Eldrazi god the size of a continent which can annihilate entire realms of existence, melt minds, and tear apart reality itself merely by its own presence,
or 15 squirrels?

They get more jaded in age, and aren't as enthusiastic as their younger counterparts

I agree! But I also think MtG lore/flavor have been given the Bilbo treatment... Like butter scraped over too much bread.

Ever heard of a Minecraft baby zombie, that’s why the baby versions are better

Don't lose your cool when baby Sponge Bob has more powerful effects than Professor X holding Capt. America's shield in the Tardis while riding a Raptor in the Shire.
Yah, that's a thing in MTG now.

This video is about power creep. These cards aren't released in the same set, and some of them are functionally an updated version of the original despite seeming like they SHOULD be a weaker version because they're a baby. It would be awesome if we were able to reprint those cards and make them stronger so we could have say a 2/2 grizzly cub and a 3/3 grizzly bear mother with keywords. But it's a bit hard to change cards that were printed decades ago.

A) Power Creep trumps Flavor because Money

B) These creature's simply originate from different points in time. Reminder that Creature cards are not the creature themselves, but can instead be considered spells to summon a copy of the creature, hence you both sides can have the same legendary. IRL, skills and knowledge are passed down to and enhanced by future generations. An 12 year old today will have far more knowledge and skills and raw ability than a 12 year old from 200 years ago. In a world as dangerous as planes in MTG inherently are, it is no surprise that some form of rapid evolution takes place in which beneficial traits and knowledge are passed down, making subsequent generations outright superior to their ancestors.

Man, it's almost like the owlbear cub's effect is called "mama's coming" for a reason...

Territorial Scythcat is most likely the base card for Scythcat Cub.

Didn't even mention displacer kitten versus displacer beast. But tbh I actually kinda love this running theme, it's hilarious and allows us to play more cute cards while still being competitive
