In his 1991 book The Third Chimpanzee, Pulitzer Prize winning author Jared Diamond explores how humans fit among other animal species and also what sets us apart. He explains how we have evolved in our behaviors to perpetuate our genes to future generations, how and why we developed language, culture, and art, and what the future holds for the human race given our evolutionary past. The Third Chimpanzee has been newly reissued for young adults in April 2014.

Uprising host Sonali Kolhatkar spoke with Prof. Diamond in his Los Angeles home about the book.

Relying that much on "genetic evidence" is contrary to common sense. While genetic research is important - it is still far away from providing concrete evidence as to what exactly happened millions of years ago.

There exists an alternative to the world we know. In the free-of charge book I wrote, "Another World is Possible", on Ecohumanworld website I reveal this alternative to you and present a world that is entirely different from the existing one, with a completely different social order. It's a world that does not work for money in order to have more, but a world that works in order to become more and rise to a necessary higher level of civilization. A border-less world united under one flag in a planetary community with a common vision for the good of all -- for nature and for us. The world of the future that we must begin building now because the one we live in is running out of time.
Let us step into the next century as proud winners and not as disappointed losers.

This information is quite outdated, especially about Neanderthals and their inventiveness. To get the latest info on human evolution, Neanderthals and other types of archaic humans, look up the Leipzig Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology and articles by Svante Pääbo & John Hawks.
