Qantas vs. Air New Zealand (Frequent Flyer Edition) ✈️

G’day, my name is Jayden, welcome back to my channel! In June 2024, I tested out both Qantas’ and Air New Zealand’s domestic flights. Watch this video and let’s decide who’s better!

For the Qantas flight, I flew Boeing 737-800 from Adelaide to Sydney. As for Air New Zealand, I flew the Airbus A320-200 from Auckland to Queenstown. I used my Qantas Gold (oneworld sapphire) and Turkish Elite (Star Alliance Gold) status, respectively for each flight, for perks such as priority check-in and lounge access. Enjoy the video & thank you so much for watching!

Something I forgot to mention: For Air NZ A320 jet flights between Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, Dunedin and Queenstown, with a scheduled flight time of more than 50 minutes, departing Monday to Friday between 4:35pm and 7:05pm, except public holidays, there are additional snack and drink choices. New Zealand wines, premium beers, cider, L&P and Coca Cola No Sugar are added to your beverage choice, served with cheese and crackers or a savoury snack.

Another great and interesting trip report JW! I remember watching your flight come into Sydney on that windy day! I do prefer Air NZ even on a domestic service. Fun fact for you, you do receive free wine and beer on domestic (jet) operated flights between 4pm and 7pm weekdays. Isn't the approach into ZQN stunning and thrilling, it's a captain's only landing as well!! Keep up the great work!

Very enjoyable and a good comparison, I flew Qantas only trans tasman, Wellington to Melbourne on a 767 and internationally on a Boeing 747, Sydney to Hong Kong. I only flew Air New Zealand in 1993 long haul from London via L.A. to Auckland. So never really flew NZ domestically, but did fly Ansett Australia domestically in 1994 as was flying 5 hours on a 737 from Sydney to Darwin, the service started in Melbourne and finished in denpasar. I work in corporate travel so it is good to have those little snippets of info I can pass to my clients. Thank you.

Great video as always! Keep it up!! 👍
Air NZ does have several other planes they use for domestic routes including the A321neo and the A320neo (both have free movies/onboard wifi), and the ATR72 and Q300 for more regional routes. If you ever get a chance to fly on those then give it a go! Very different experiences.😁

JW…Kia Ora to you and 6 Foot 4. Great TR as usual and very informative, fair and equitable. I really enjoyed it. You hit the nail on the head in all areas of your commentary and yes I work for Air NZ so I am a bit biased. You are comparing 2 fine carriers with their obvious differences and sum it well with the comments about the friendliness of the crew on both NZ and QF. I agree about he US and Euro carriers….the antipodean airlines are much better…pop Fiji Airways into that mix too. Wonderful work and so entertaining. We loved it. Hope you both had a nice trip to Aotearoa. Bobo

I would certainly choose the Qantas Domestic over the Air New Zealand, mainly because NZ doesn't serve alcohol? Deal breaker! The vibe on Qantas seemed nicer too. Did you spill something on your shirt here at 10:30 (at the into before the NZ flight)? :Nice trip(s) reviews though!!

Air NZ planes look more modern than QF from what I've seen in your videos so far :)
Though I've never tried Air NZ before, it looks like their service is quite similar to QF

Nice one jayden! Air nz lounges are far superior to qf club....they dont have a 2 tier offering like qf so koru lounges have a high standard. Unlike the boiled eggs and toasties in qf club and full breakfast next door at the biz platinum lounge.
Air nz extra legroom seats are 👌
Im sure everyone is looking forward to the new qfa320Lr joining the fleet soon! Cant come soon enough.

Nice report! Btw, do you prefer bulkheads or normal extra leg room seats?

Nothing bigger than an ATR flies to my local airport! Only those on the main air routes get the luxury planes; most Kiwis don't. Air NZ is an essential with the state of NZ's State Highways in some areas... but the prices are way too high. Air travel from the Regional centres is more than most people can pay.

Lounge access is not something most Kiwis can get.

Lots of Kiwis were taken up to the cockpit or handed out sweets in past years, it's a fond memory.

I’ve been gold with Air New Zealand, and I live in Australia now and hold platinum status with Qantas.

Air New Zealand is superior domestically, (better lounges, extra leg room seats on Jet services) and silver or gold status with air NZ is better than the equivalent with Qantas. Qantas platinum/P1 is better than NZ gold elite
