Have you ever been using your Samsung Galaxy smartphone or tablet and noticed this screen appear? If so, I can show you how to disable it so that it never appears again.

Samsung advertises this feature as a way to block accidental touches when the phone is in a dark environment. They then go on to give a couple of examples, such as when the device is in your pocket. . .or when it is in a carrying bag.

However, those examples are not when I see this screen pop-up.

I could have the phone on my desk and just not touch it for a minute or so. And instead of seeing the screen timeout and so that it is automatically locked, there are many times when I see this screen appear.

Even when the phone is out in the open and on top of my desk. Or when the phone is in my hands while I'm sitting on the couch.

It's happened so many times that I dug through the Settings just so I could find out how to turn this feature off.
And you can do this by first opening up the Settings application.
Then scrolling down so that you can tap the Display menu.
And then scrolling down again until you find the Accidental Screen Protection toggle.

This feature has been enabled by default on all of the Samsung Galaxy devices that I own.
So if you have a device in the Galaxy S23 series, Galaxy S22 series, S21 series, or any others, then Samsung has likely enabled this feature by default on yours as well.

Thankfully, we can turn it off with a simple tap and you should never see it appear again.

I actually really like the idea of this feature. I'm sure it has been useful quite a few times when I have shoved the phone into my pocket without locking it.

However, there seem to be too many false positives when Accidental Touch Protection is enabled. So I just can't justify keeping it on any longer.

I would be curious to hear what you all think about this feature on Samsung Galaxy devices. Have you ever had this screen appear while you were still actively using it? Let me know about your experiences down in the comments section below.

Many thanks (genuinely). But this should be a 12 second video. 3 mins of blah, blah, blah. Like begining with 'have you ever seen this screen?... ' Well why do you think we searched out your video in the 1st place mate?. Keep it simple bro.

I have had my S9 for more than 3 years, and I have NEVER seen this screen until today just in the last hour! Similar experience to yours in that I was holding it, talking on the phone to someone and it popped up, in other words I was using the phone. It came up about a dozen times in the last hour. Thank you SO MUCH for the guidance on how to disable this “feature.”

This appeared on my screen within in the last hour and defied numerous attempts to dislodge it! I eventually managed (by luck and persistence) to unlock my phone and came straight to your video after a google search. Thank you so much!

I only just started getting this feature coming up.
It's frustrating. It says swipe to disable, I keep swiping and it won't disable. Takes me about 5 minutes to clear everytime I unlock the phone.
Great concept, terrible in it's operation.
Thanks for the video instructions how to disable it.

I have the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G & it seemed to turn on at random. I have disabled the feature now according to your instructions. Thank you for taking the time to show this function (or malfunction) of the phone.

Tech companies spend millions on features that not only don't enhance their products but make them worse. Accidental touch stops me from accessing my phone every time I try to use it and the "swipe" feature to get past it doesn't work either.

The ONLY function I have ever searched for turning on is to block unknown numbers and that doesn't work either. I have searched how to turn off features many many times.

P.S. I had to edit because the spell/word selection feature couldn't tell I wanted "but" and not "bit"....that feature sucks too.

My S22 did a security update last night. Now, every time I try to open my screen by swiping, the CRAZY lock screen pops up, and then I can not open my phone. Thank you

Thanx for posting - I have an old S10 where this function used to work just fine (as intended). But now, as of June 2024, it seems to activate often, for no apparent reason. So, i disabled it per your directions.

I had to turn it off. Don't know how it got enabled. The swipe feature to access the phone is miss and miss. Just some fluke swipes allowed me to access the keypad to enter my pin.

I try to swipe up with that accidental touch protection to turn it off but that never works. It seems like a broken lock

I turned off my just now because this feature is very annoying. It doesn't protect from accidental touches but it just slows me down opening my phone. Thanks btw.

On Saturday night my phone ( Samsung M31) was ok. I didn't do anything . But on Sunday morning (yesterday) when I tried to use it, the screen got locked and like you have shown the message appeared. I tried my best but am unable to unlock it, despite swiping it several times and keeping it in a brighter area like other suggested. What should I do to unlock it in the first place?
I switched it off and restarted it again several times too. Nothing is working.
For the past two days my phone is still in a locked screen position and I am unable to use it.
I think I will have to take it to service centre now.

This feature doesn't even work properly. I've had my phone start randomly doing things while in my pocket often
