I majored in bio and honestly it's been super flexible for me. I agree it's all definitely in the experience and net working that you do. I recommend anyone starting off in bio to definitely get some type of research experience or lab experience while in college. If you are not able too (like me, I had zero experience), start off as a lab technician or assistant after graduating and go from there. It will open up many doors for you. Good luck and many blessings to everyone in your careers. 🙏

As somebody who majored in Biology at undergrad, I wouldn’t say I regret my choice per se, but there are things that I would have done different. I also have some advice for anybody wanting to go into biology:

1.) Get as many internships as possible and work experience in student research. I did have plenty of internships, but I regret not being more involved with research at my school.

2.) Pair your biology degree with computer science or data science. There is a massive demand right now for people who have the domain knowledge when it comes to data science. Your biology knowledge plus having some math and computer science background will open up far more opportunities than just settling for biology.

For me, I know I wanted to go to grad school after my biology. Now, I am almost ready to become a data science with a biology domain.

My advice: Get a biology degree only if you know 100% with what you want to do after undergrad or if you pair it up with computer science and/or math minor or major. Or if you want to be a teacher.

I’m a biology major and I’m gonna do a masters in bioinformatics I’m so excited, alumni are really happy with their degree and have an easy time finding a job and have a good salary (I live in France).

Great video, Shane!

I majored in Biology. I live overseas but your summary at the end seems to be the case here, too.

That said, one point that I beg to differ: doctorates are not expensive. Students are supported by graduate assistantships. They basically get paid to do their PhDs.

Run from a Biology degree!! I have one and couldn’t do anything with it. I went back to school for nursing and it’s the best decision I ever made! I wish I would’ve got a nursing degree the first time around, I wouldn’t have waisted so much time and money!

I am, doing Bsc, Genetics with integrated masters in UK & I agree with him. Just a Biology degree is not worth that much. On my own i learn data science & statistics in R, also bunch of other business, math & computer science stuff. I would suggest Doing extra other subjects which are easy for you on top of course to boost your CV. I know biology students love biology, but if it is not much demand for it in the free market, we need to adapt for that ;)

I graduated with a biology degree recently, I did the internships, I did the study abroad, I worked as an RA, I was the president of the biology club, I got good grades, and I haven't been able to get any job, let alone one that pays well (it's been 9 months). I love Biology, but I could not in good faith tell someone that it a good degree to get. I'm just thankful that I didn't figure this out after getting a graduate degree.

I did a human biosciences degree and struggled to get a job for ages, finally landed a bottom grade pharmacy technician job that led nowhere. Got experience in labs but that didn’t help, so I did a masters in the only science related topic that I could do without moving which was stem cell science. This hasn’t really opened any doors for me and lab jobs are hard to get. I’m a phlebotomist atm and seriously considering doing anouther course that’s more directed towards a specific job such as occupational therapy etc. But I don’t know, I’m so depressed atm and feel like everything I did was wasted :/

Graduated with a BS in Biology in 2018. Now I'm working on my CS Master's and making more as an intern than I did at my previous full time job lmao

Everybody seems to majors in Biology; Other than Business and Psychology, it's the most popular major in pretty much every college.
