My Top 10 Slap Bass Riffs - #1 'Nobody Weird Like Me' by Flea

In this video I demonstrate how to play the slap bass line that opens 'Nobody Weird Like Me', by the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You’ll find this track on the 1989 album Mother’s Milk.

This awesome slap part from Flea was one of my favourite lines when I was learning to play, and it's a great example of a slap part that's easier to play than it might seem! I used a Music Man Sterling SUB bass for this lesson.

If you're interested in learning more slap and pop lines, be sure to check out our extensive slap bass video courses. These are split into three sections (Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced) and cover every slap technique imaginable including:

Great vid and looking forward to the rest! It struck me listening to it again that I'll never understand why for multitudes of folks when Flea does this it's cool but when Mark King does it's slated. When the drums kick in here it reminds me of parts of Mark's solo on Rockplast version of Love Games in 84. This is no criticism of Flea, RHCP fans this video or anyone- just something I've never figured out!
