If one is already EU citizen Malta is definitely also worth considering for investors. The code words are: Resident non-domiciled. Should allow for single digit tax rate via minimal planning.

Easier just to get a freelance visa that is available in most countries, move to that country, pay taxes for five years or whatever the requirement is, and then get Citizenship there. Generally, countries want people to be part of their country, not just own property there and come a few weeks a year.

So I’m 35 this year, Single no kids, i’m looking to get out of Australia and start a new life somewhere else.
If I liquify everything and come up with €100k and possibly a year or 2 rent upfront at €1000 per month to meet the financial obligations of the visa.
I am essentially allowed to move to Malta 🇲🇹 and find a job, work/live and spend 5 years there and be able to apply for a passport… it sounds very tempting but is it really that easy???

Many state that Malta will take forever to make you a citizen if you do not perform the Citizenship by Investment Program option, similar to Greece

Thank you for your outstanding informative content. Regarding Malta’s $100, 000 Residency Visa option it appears that with this option the Visa only provides EU Schengen residence or travel for 90 days out of every 180 days. Do you you believe the Visa could piggyback the US Passport giving in essence full time residency available in the EU? ( I assume even with a Malta Visa a US passport would be stamped which would limit overall time in non-Malta counties to the 90 days out of 180 ).
