One of these days I’m going to play the game at this level. I’m nowhere close right now just a year out of welding school, but I am determined that one day I will be able to look at a weld like that and be less in awe and more in appreciation of what a professional brings to the table because I will know I can stack my own work up against it and not be found wanting.

back when i was in votech for welding almost 20 years ago auto changers just were coming out. my dad bought me one cause i would tack a plate with the helmet up instead of lifting the lense everytime. but when he took me to pick it out i also grabbed a pair of like auburn lensed safety glasses kinda a mix between red and orange but they lit the contrast in my puddles up so i could see exactly what was going on height width a swirl or a arrow but it absolutely changed the game. Ive used those colored safety glasses for welding under my helmet ever since. But a bit of the right color in the lense of your safety glasses can really amplify your abilities.
