Virology Live #18: Transformation and Oncogenesis

About 20% of human cancers are associated with virus infections, which can lead to transformation of cells. Making cells immortal places them on the road to cancer. In this session we review the discovery of RNA and DNA tumor viruses and how an understanding of how they transform cells lead to an understanding of the mechanisms of cell growth control.

I’m Vincent Racaniello, Earth’s Virology Professor.

I’m also a professor of virology at Columbia University in New York. I’ve been doing research on viruses since 1976, and teaching virology in classrooms and online since 1999. On this YouTube channel I share videos of my lectures, podcasts, and more.
