How Hearing Works

Показать описание
Watch this video for an overview of the anatomy of the ear and how we process sound in order to hear.
Please note that 85 decibels or A-weighted decibels (dB or dBA) derives from the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommended exposure level for occupational noise. (A-weighting adjusts sound measurements for the frequencies heard in human speech, and is used by NIOSH because the inability to hear speech is the compensable workplace injury from occupational noise exposure.)
As such, 85 dB or dBA is not a safe noise exposure level for the public. It does not prevent noise-induced hearing loss or other auditory injury in workers, and cannot be applied to sensitive populations like children, the elderly, or pregnant people. The only evidence-based safe noise exposure level is a time-weighted average of 70 dB daily, and the actual safe noise exposure level may be much lower.
