The science of hearing - Douglas L. Oliver

The ability to recognize sounds and identify their location is possible thanks to the auditory system. That’s comprised of two main parts: the ear, and the brain. The ear’s task is to convert sound energy into neural signals; the brain’s is to receive and process the information those signals contain. To understand how that works, Douglas L. Oliver follows a sound on its journey into the ear.

I'm a student. I'll definitely be donating/become a patreon, once I graduate and get a nice job. You guys honestly deserve it. So much free knowledge. Please keep doing the great work.

Amazing presentation. Great work to the animators and researchers on this one, and cheers to the calming voice of the narrator.

I loved this animation! I finally understand how the tiny bones in our ears work together to help us hear sounds! Thank you!

As an audiology major, I really wish my degree was this easy/simple. (Typing this while procrastinating on my super difficult auditory nervous system coding essay)

Love this channel! ❤ great animation that makes these kinds of things easy to understand.. Sure the school thought us these stuffs, but not as elaborate as this..

When you're lowkey thinking about this going on in your own head as you listen

The ear convert the sound energy into a neutral signal
The signal is recived for the brain after passing 3 parts of year
1. outer ear
2.middle ear
3. inner ear

HOW EAR WORKS-

when sound waves > fall on the outer ear ( pinna / the funnel ) > sends the sound to ear canal ( outer ear) > middle part of the ear hitting the ear drum > vibrating the ear > tiny chain of 3 bones ( ossicle > starts with hammer > pass through anvil > moves third bone [ stapes / stirrup ] ) > travels through cochlea ( small circular tube filled with liquid ) > ossicle has tiny hair > when the fliud in cochlea moves > it moves the tiny hair and create nerve signals> that sent through the auditory nerve into brain > >> this is knows as sound

The vibration of ossicle create a wave in the cochlear that makes fliud into liquid vibration

Great video...and not being picky, but for anyone watching to learn, the condition the video referred to about how the middle ear bones (the stapes typically) gets stuck is better referred to as "Otosclerosis" and not "Osteosclerosis", as both conditions involve abnormal bone growth or hardening, but otosclerosis is specific to the ear and primarily affects hearing, whereas osteosclerosis is a broader term that can refer to increased bone density in any part of the skeleton.
