HOW TO SEPARATE BALL JOINT WITHOUT TOOLS

Make sure there is no weight on the lower control arm so ball joint can fall when it releases. Then just smack it so hard your teeth shake. And it’ll go. Easy.

Thank you! This just helped me a ton. Couldn't figure out how to get the dang thing off. I will say it took about 20-30 minutes of beating it with the sledge to get it off my 05 Subaru with 180k on it.
I soaked the other side in PB Blaster overnight and it came off with 2 hits this morning. So if this isn't working for you get a good penetrating fluid.
Love how short and straight to the point this video was. Thank you for not wasting my time.

Thank you for the video. I was going to run and buy some tool to remove the drop spindle. I washed your video ran into the garage and in seconds the lower control arm dropped. Thank you for the video I just saved myself a run to the auto store and some cash.

Thankyou ever so much. Id been fuching about for days wd49, gas torch, n 10 ton hydraulic spreader all no joy. Did what you showed here jacked disc up, big hammer, 2 clouts and it just dropped out. I was to be honest amazed cant thank you enough. Brilliant.

I just want to say, this is an amazing tip. For me I soaked wd40 and left it for a few hours. Then raised the hub using a spare jack stand (as I was only on axle stands with the car a foot off the ground). I then used a ball joint removal tool (the type where it is a lever with a big bolt that you turn) and put it in place as tight as I can. And then started baning around the area you suggested. It basically popped right off after a minute of banging. Great technique!

Thank you! 2000 Silverado front upper was stuck like crazy. Fork tool had run out of space to be effective. Jacking it up changed the angle and the fork had something to wedge against. Finally got it to pop loose!

The key to this technique is taking all the weight off the taper so it’s not getting bound up and held in place. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. 👍

I've had a 1/2 ton ram on mine and smacking it with a 4lb hammer and it still won't move. It's 38 years old. Tomorrow I'm going to pull everything off and get a swing with a 10 pound hammer.

Yea it is supposed to come off regardless but the point is taking it off from the other frame. That’s the hard part and if I’m right a special tool is needed

mine was separated already after it had a complete failure😄
