Summer school starts on Monday! Yep, for my hourly rate of $71/hour, heck yeah I’ll teach for three weeks!!!

The only reason I ever taught summer school was when I had a particular need for that money, and I only taught summer school three times since 1998. One summer was to buy a new laptop. The second summer was to buy a new high end desktop. The third summer was to pay down some bills.

I did summer.school on year in high.school to get geometry out of the way so i could take calculus I my junior year and graduate early. The teacher was a former Army Ranger. He took absolutely no shit. We learned a lot.

Teacher here... I was the "optimistic" teacher my first year and QUICKLY evolved into the Veteran teacher. It was high school and most of the students were bigger than me! 😂😂

Ugh, i had to do summer school between 10 and 11th grade bc my school district wanted their money from the state. Not because of my classwork, etc. I was a fully-loaded AP student, but because I'd spent roughly 50% of the school year in hospital, they weren't getting their money for me being physically there. I was poor so they knew my family couldn't fight it. I got all the coursework done in a week and a half, and the chillest teacher ever gave me credit for the rest of the time, and I peaced out. He was like, " Why are you even here?"

You left out the JV football assistant coach who decided to teach summer school because he had to be in the building all summer anyway for weight room coverage! 🏈

3rd year summer school teacher here.

I am doing 4th grade fractions with 8th and 9th graders and they be struggling. We do two weeks of just fractions

Then I take those skills and show them how they overlay the algebra functions on the standardized test for my rising freshman.

For my 8th graders, who get to use a calculator for the first time the last 3 weeks are all calculator skills

I spend a week per lesson that the school year forces us to cover in a day and they are still struggling

Summer classes are a chance for us to take more time to actually learn the application so they can graduate
