I fell away after being raised in the church. Wish it never happened but I only grew to understand the riches of the Lord after being exposed to the darkness of the world. But I would never wish for anyone to walk a day apart from the Lord. Starts like freedom, ends as misery.

I think John Piper's son has a very elementary understanding of Bible stories as if everything written is supposed to be a moral story. No, the Bible describes some very unusual things that aren't appropriate to turn into nice children's stories. There's a difference between prescriptive and descriptive. Hopefully he does some more soul searching and study and returns to faith or truly finds Jesus.

Perfect timing! I just started following Piper’s son on Tiktok this past week. He’s lost. I teach Bible to 4-5 year olds, we edit every story making it age appropriate!

My heart goes out to Abraham as I have been in his shoes growing up in the pew, and feeling that same way, then coming back to the Lord later in age. I also feel for John as a father for his son. May the God of Mercy and Grace help this 🙏

This would have been me before I was a Christian as I grew up in the Brethren assemblies! Usually if someone is like this, I believe God is still working with them. I didn't become a Christian until, long story short, at the age of 19, God broke in and warned me that I had just about reached the end of being warned of losing my soul, as I would not listen to Him pleading with me any longer. That really sobered me up regarding salvation. By the way I'm in my 60's and I still address inconsistencies regarding 'christian teaching' and get slammed for doing so, on and off line.

As a child, I never fell away after reading the bible. I always see the Old Testament as how we human being behaved and we repeatedly rebel and then were helped by God and then again. And then how nation vs nation goes. History repeats again.

The Apostle John was right when he told us by God's Inspiration, "I have no greater joy than to see that my children are walking in the Truth."

Well, our human hearts tell us that the opposite is also true..." I have no greater pain than to see my children are walking in a lie."

The Way to Truth matters for it is Life.

I have been in his shoes. I would say I was even more critical and bitter of God and the Bible than he is. Many of us who grew up heavily indoctrinated and involved in the Church will reach a crossroads. I am with the Lord now, but I have often wished I hadn't grown up in the pew. Please don't judge him. Pray for him that he may come to TRULY know the Lord for himself - that he will be able to taste and see that the Lord is good!

He seems like he is in some type of delayed adolescence -- about 25 years late. Here is a 40-year-old guy walking around in grunge attire and long, messy hair complaining that he was forced to attend church and Christian high school, mad at his dad, and not understanding the real foundations or claims of the Bible in his pseudo-intellectual rants.
