TP must stand for “TRIPPLE PENETRATOOOORR!!” Who would’ve guessed.

Well, not unexpected. Target practice rounds turn all enemies into target practice.

i have a feeling that the training rounds are just not simulated while the other ammo types are simulated and deal x% of dmg according to what kind of armor they are hitting.
the training rounds just ignore the armor because its not programmed to not do it. why would any sane person use these to kill a tank, huh? 🤣

How about TP round against aircraft? Will it deal more damage?

Maybe they making TP rounds with depleted uranium now. lol

TP rounds have behaved like this in DCS for many years now.

"Makes no sense" It does make sense to me. Real life TP rounds are basically solid core shots balanced and weighted to mimic other typical shots that would be fired. Armored vehicles can withstand shrapnel and shockwaves well, but TP rounds are pretty much solid mass impacting the target. If I remember right, aren't the explosive rounds also containing a proximity fuse? So they're not even directly impacting before exploding if that's the case, they're just showering with shrapnel pretty much. Even if they are impacting to set the fuse off, it's still exploding on the outside and not doing anything against the armor.

So as to why the TP rounds were more effective against the bradley than the AP rounds: That would probably be because the AP rounds kind of act like a HEAT shaped charge warhead where it uses the armor itself to assist in creating more spalling and thus more internal damage, so a lighter armored target may have less spalling effects due to its lighter armour while a solid slug can punch right through and send shrapnel all over. I think this is a legit result for the Bradley. The result for the tank is questionable as to why it would do the same damage for both rounds could be potentially explained by the thickness of the top armor. I think if you were hitting side/rear/front armor, you'd get a different result.

When it comes to the Gau-8, the Warthog was designed to be flying low and slow with the real potential of it firing at frontal armor. With those 30mm AP rounds not only acting like HEAT, but also having DU penetrators, even if the armor is thick enough to withstand the impact, it's going to leave a nasty divot and follow up with a few hundred more afterwords whereas a TP round might just literally bounce off in real life.

Training means training wheels for the noobs to have a chance. They used depleted Uranium in those training rounds.

My money is on: ED made the training rounds more effective so people using them for training can see quickly, easily and clearly whether or not their pilot skills are on point. Theoretically, the purpose of those rounds is to get good at aiming, not get good at understanding armour penetration. If you can turn the vehicle into a bonfire quickly and easily, you can quickly and confidently see how good your aim was. If people want to learn about penetrating armour, they can learn it faster with the famous "A-10 Pilots Coloring Book"

10:00 and remember the armor on the bradley is aluminum alloy instead of rha so it will be even weaker than the Abrams by a lot more. Very wierd

What about the ww2 planes? I’d like to see this same test on those along with ww2 assets pack

Maybe for cheap the training ammo is steel core not specifically treated for armor piercing but a lighter round so it has a higher velocity. Velocity not weight is what causes steel armor penetration.

Th. Well i think i will Take the Training rounds . Lucky me they have tracers . ✨

The Tracer options are still mixes, not every round is a tracer. Most of the rounds in those belts are still the standard version of that round.

what i find strange is the 20mm AP round does twice as much more damage to the thicker armour of the M1A2 (60%) than the thinner armoured M2 IFV (30%), would of thought they should be the other way round .

@Grim Reapers - hows that working out with planes for targets?
