I stopped storing things under the beds! Once I decided that under my bed was NOT a storage unit, I decluttered until I no longer needed the storage space. Something so simple was transformative for me.

I make "care" packages for the homeless with the hotel shampoos; conditioners, lotions, etc. Add a washrag; socks; granola bars, comb/brush to the "care" pkg makes it useful. God bless you and yours.

This may seem weird to most people, but I stopped wearing different styles of pants and shoes. I found one style of washable black pants and one style of black slip-on walking shoes that fit and feel comfortable, are reasonably priced and long-lasting. I buy multiple pairs on sale and wear the same style every day, changing only the style/color of tops and accessories. My entire wardrobe fits in one drawer, everything works together and I save a lot of time and money not coordinating outfits or buying items for specific occasions.

I found grocery shopping more frequently helps cut down my overall food waste. I only purchase what I'll eat within approximately three days. The food doesn't have the chance to spoil or get freezer burn, and knowing I'll have less choices forces me to make wiser initial selections at the store.

I totally agree with you about the news. It bothers my depression and anxiety.

We stopped buying into the commercialization of Christmas and no longer spend $1500 out of obligation. Our young kids, older kids, and family are given cash to buy what they want, but that's it and it's wayyy less expensive. I didn't lie to them about Santa, so they already knew any stocking gifts were from us, but we've eliminated that, as well.

As a minimalist, really disliking shopping is a wonderful attitude to develop which saves you sooo much money. I hate shopping malls, even a grocery store frustrates me!! I’m glad I’m like this!

Yes 👏 to quitting News! This has helped me incredibly with focusing on what is essential in my life and with eliminating SO much distraction. Which is ironic, as News claim to be essential. Turns out they hardly ever are...

I have to say that I have been doing for many years almost everything you have in your list. I am not a minimalist, but I am definitely frugal. I started to cut my own hair when I was a teen and always cut my children's hair. My husband insisted that I cut his hair as well and I did it for 20 years. My son was in college before he ever went to a barber. I do some seasonal decorating but gave up the tree when the kids left home. Just recently I started to store the shirts, shorts, and slacks vertically and have to say I really like it that way. When I grew up my mother used a wringer washer and hung clothes outside. We had to wear the same clothes 2 or 3 days before they went in the wash. The same towels were used for the full week. Even now the clothes I have worn and are not dirty or sweaty are hung on hooks to wear again. I have 3 levels of clothes, good wear, everyday wear, and gardening wear. Good clothes becomes everyday and everyday is relegated to gardening when they get older. Some things get donated, but most of it ends up in a recycle bag of worn out items. This goes for shoes as well as other clothing. My pantry is well stocked so that I don't have to shop that often. I plan my meals around what is in the freezer, in the pantry, or coming in fresh in the garden. Although I only cook for myself now, I make meals to feed 4-6 and freeze dinners that can be heated in the microwave. I never purchase water, soda, and processed food.

For me, not eating out is a no-brainer. Cooking saves me so much money! I also repurpose and recycle. Thrift stores are a great place to shop. The quality is better than new, and the money often goes to charity. Thanks for the video.

Doing laundry every day is a life saver for me. I get overwhelmed by the pile for the whole week. Daily laundry also helps me keep all the rugs, throw blankets, throw pillow covers, etc washed more regularly.

Great video! I already do much of what you have listed: I gave up soda over twenty years ago, coffee over fifteen years ago, I cut my hair myself, I don't bring free things home, I've learned to say no, I don't buy cards at all, I eat out about twice a year, I use trial subscriptions and then cancel if I realize that I'm not going to use them, I don't store things under the bed, I don't use a paper calendar, I don't buy bottled water, I fold my t-shirts vertically, I got rid of kitchen gadgets, I wake up very early but I ease into my day, I don't decorate for holidays but I can appreciate other peoples decorations, I stopped buying trendy fashion and now have a classic wardrobe, I donated all throw pillows for my bed and sofa, I reduced the amount of news and social media content due to toxicity and I try not to compare myself to other people.

Wow! If everyone picked even 10 of those to quit, our lives, our society and our earth would improve significantly.
Thanks for the time and thought you put into this!

Great tips!! You shared some things I haven’t thought of before.
Simplifying medicines, toiletries, makeup, and cleaning products has been huge for me!
I keep:
Vinegar for mopping, cleaning mirrors and windows, my glasses.
Baking soda for toilet, laundry, and dishwasher.
One bar of soap for everything else including body, face, a little in the mop water, hand cleaning, countertops, etc.
I use regular toothpaste. I started buying the $1 makeup instead of the $50 makeup. I have one lipstick, one eyebrow pencil, one SPF foundation, one bronzer, and that’s it. For hair, hands, body, face moisturizer I use jojoba oil.
For meds I have Tylenol and cough syrup. I got rid of bandaids.
I simplified some clothing (socks) to be more Steve Jobs like, but still have some fun stuff too. I got rid of the clothes and shoes I don’t wear or wore even though I didn’t like wearing. I didn’t buy new so laundry is easier now because there’s less of it.
For dishes I simplified to only Pyrex for storage and only 4 bowl/plates… a bowl that is wider and more plate like. I don’t have bowls and plates I have just one dish that is both… kinda like a spork. I have one pan. I got rid of can openers and only buy cans with peel off lids. It’s one less thing to wash and replace and they always break on me.
I’m in the process of going through pictures and getting rid of pictures where I no longer remember someone’s name.

thanks for sharing such wisdom. What amazed me was that every idea you mentioned, I have also integrated into our lives over the years. although I'm 40-50 years older than you. we seem to be like-minded. Even the way you fold clothes, and the cards - I stopped buying them and began a hobby of making my own unique cards to share. After I retired from teaching, my husband and I decided to simplify our lives further and sold or donated nearly 50 years worth of possessions. We were both collectors of many things so it was a dramatic change when we moved full-time into a 5th wheel RV. We decided to focus on what is really important and pursue the things we love - birding, sharing the gospel, and volunteer work. We also enjoy travel, reading, writing, vegan cooking, jigsaw puzzles- the simple things of life. This small life suits us fine and allows us to have more time to help others. Blessings to you and your family.

Love all your ideas!!
I do a lot of them. I don’t like anything under the beds, I try not to get trendy clothes . The brain dumb helps my mind to shut off at the end off the day. Also I try not to watch news or listen to things that are super negative and I can’t do anything about it.
Just need to trust God and remember he’s in control❤️❤️

I love when you said that your kids create the birthday cards for their friends. Such a nice touch!

Thank you! Especially the “no morning routine”. I am not a morning person and I am constantly made to feel guilty about it.
