Alright if you want your chest to go from this to this, stop doing 15 sets every single session. There’s only really so much you can do for your chest, and if you’re toasting it with 5 exercises twice a week for 3-4 sets each, you’re just gonna be spending the majority of your time trying to recover rather than actually building new muscle. And this pretty much goes for every muscle group, but chest seems to be the one people overreach on the most, and although it seems counterintuitive to have to do less to grow more, trust me, dialing in on 6-10 really intense sets scattered across 2-3 exercises per session is much better to stimulate hypertrophy rather than trying to throw in everything at once.

I personally do 3 exercises for a total of 7-8 sets per session and my chest has noticeably improved 👍

My current program is PPL, i only do 8 sets on chest per session and my chest is growing like crazy . I mostly do 4 sets of flat barbell bench and then 4 sets of cable flys or dips, and on the next session i do incline dumbbell bench 4 sets and some other variation for flat bench or decline . I used to do 5 exercises each 3 sets but that didnt do much until i switched to less sets in total

I've fallen into junk volume a lot myself in the past. Personally I have found that lowering volume and upping intensity has granted much better results

I needed this. Chest is fun because it’s freakin chest, but also boring because there isn’t a ton of variation. I’m currently just doing heavy flat barbell bench and incline presses since I can’t figure out low to high cable flyes and I don’t enjoy any other movements

I do 3 exercises max for chest. Barbell press, incline dumbell press, and fly..thats it. This man is right about not over doing it

I think that a lot of people who do this much volume on just their chest in one day aren’t truly pushing to failure. If they were, either some exercises would be half-assed or their sets would taper off in reps. For example someone could be doing 3 exercises but 5 sets each.

Facts. I’ve seen so much more growth and progress after switching to a Dorian Yates type high intensity routine. Warmup set with low weight, single working set with heavy weight to absolute failure, doing about 4-5 excercises per muscle group.

This is just so counter intuitive to what I've heard and seen up til this point. I've definitely heard hitting 2 to 3 exercises, but it's usually been a range of 6 to 10 sets per exercise. If I only do like 3 or 4 sets I feel like I've barely warmed up, even if I go til failure on those sets. I'm about to switch up my routine again and I'm thinking of going this route but I'm struggling to mentally wrap my head around the effectiveness of this

I always work with varying load and repetition within periodization, but the most recent articles and studies show that you will have equal hypertrophy but two situations, both high and low repetitions.

I refused chest volume by doing about 75% of what I was doing before and my bench went up 30lbs in two months and helped me break a couple month plateau. 290-320lbs
