Today was a beautiful and also difficult day in Syria. We traveled all the way from Damascus to Aleppo in Northern Syria - along the way we saw so much war destruction, met incredible people, saw historical sites, and ate some delicious food. Today I’m sharing with you our food road trip in Syria.

Here’s what we did:

Maaloula - After about an hour drive from Damascus, we arrived at the mountain town of Maaloula (where they still speak Aramaic), with so much history. First stop we went to Maaloula Manakeesh to eat some Manakeesh. Total price - 125,000 SYP ($8.33) for everything

Shuaa Restaurant - Along the highway we stopped to eat at this famous lamb restaurant. Total price - 350,000 SYP ($23.33) for everything

We continued driving to Homs, a city that was unfortunately hit very hard by the war. But people were in high spirits and we were greeted with kindness and hospitality.

Hama Lamp Kunafa - Finally we continued our journey to Hama, to eat a few essential Syrian foods in this historical city. We mainly tried batersh - roasted eggplant, ghee fried lamb. Total price - 550,000 SYP ($36.66) for everything

The driver opened his car door when he was driving to say Hi to Mark, that's wonderful friendliness. The resilience of Syrians, and their culture, architecture and food is incredible. Thanks to Mark Wiens, his wife, the guide, and crew for this video.

As a Syrian now living in Norway, I wholeheartedly welcome you to our beautiful country, Mark. I am grateful to you for visiting and for highlighting our diverse cuisine and culture to the world. It is truly heartbreaking to see what my country has been through, but at the same time, tears of happiness flow as I see you and your team showcasing our beloved country. Thank you once again, Mark. You always deliver as expected. It has been 13 years since I left my hometown, so I eagerly anticipate seeing you in Aleppo.❤

As a Syrian man from Aleppo who has spent more than 25 years of my life outside Syria, these episodes brought tears to my eyes. One day we will return to Syria to build a greater and more beautiful future for our beloved Syria.

Syria has risen like the Phoenix to continue with fantastic food and the graces of good hospitality. I am amazed! I am from East Berlin. This video reminded me of places all over Berlin that were not rebuilt. It is a marvel to see people living in a beautiful reconstruction alongside of places that still need rebuilding. And within this surreal mix is food and hospitality. The human spirit lives and rebuilds. This video is grand. It features a 3000 year old technology alongside of 325 A.D church, alongside of a reconstructed mosque. My eyes are bedazzled!!!

Mark never asked to get to 10M subs, he got here by grinding for two decades. There are very few people that will ever get to experience the places Mark has gone.

They seem to take hygiene and cleanliness seriously in Syria. Everything looks fresh and clean, I would love to try some of that food
