I live in the US but have been to Sofia probably 10 times, my first time in 1991, but not since 2009.I have many friends there and I love the nation of Bulgaria and the city of Sofia. I look forward to the time I am able to visit once again. I love the food and the aroma of chubritsa in all of the homes. Last time I was there I bought a large quantity to bring back to the US! Thanks for the tour, it has rekindled warm memories.

0:31 when was Bulgaria part of the Soviet Union? It was only part of the Eastern Block or Warsaw Pact.

Visited Sofia about 12 years ago 2010. Had a bucket list to visit all european cities on a budget.
Had a flight for 30 euros return from London winter time I think early January, it was --20 C
when I arrived--beware travellers from UK it can get much colder in Bulgaria but the snow is much
better than London nice fluffy and powdery as oppose to icy, damp and slushy in UK.
Most restaurants, cafes had outside shelters with heating very cosy so no problems :)
Lots of interesting buildings old and new, quite a contrast not unpleasant to see old things
mixed with old soviet concrete social housing blocks very different but very cool :)
Contrary to some comments did not find Bulgarian people unfriendly quite the opposite.
I think an important thing to mention Bulgarian people shake their head for yes and nod for no
99% of people nod for yes and shake for language is very important--the guy at
my hotel reception one night shook his head at me-I thought what have I done wrong-but of
course he was being agreeable and welcoming :)
Do think in general Health and safety could be improved--but reflecting on 12 years ago
probably is good now Bulgaria is in EU. Did travell by bus in a blizzard to Plovdiv scary stuff.
I am going on Holiday this month to Bulgaria starting in Sofia no set plan although will
visit Varna--can you reccomend a town within 1 hr of Sofia to see some traditional things??
I am looking forward to my next visit to Bulgaria as am not on a budget and have more time to explore and expand on my last very interesting pleasant trip :)

I have never been in Bulgaria, but there is a huge desire to visit this country, because it resembles me Russia that I left on 27 of February 2022 because of the Z-people. I live in UAE now and have the job, but there isn't life, nature and atmosfear. Everything is artificial. I have already seen a lot of videos about Bulgaria and your is very interesting. Thank you so much! Hope soon I will visit Bulgaria!)

This video is so much better and more enjoyable to watch than a lot of the other travel videos where they have drone shots and EDM music. It's just much more real, easy to follow, personable, and informative. Thanks for putting it together. Nice job!

I have never been to Eastern Europe (yet). Thank you for sharing your beautiful and eclectic country with us. I'm happy that I can get free water (I will die if I don't drink water every 5 minutes).
I would be so honored if you could give me a personal tour of Sofia. 😍

have been there, regardless of the extreme poverty, the city is quite good, the first time I went was in 1988 and the people were dressed in very poor clothes and I was impressed by how kind the people were even though they often collected cigarette butts from the street while many people were waiting in lines to get meat with food stamps while they didn't have sanitary napkins for women, but cotton and instead of toilet paper, they had pieces, strips of newspapers but should be much better now.
Keep going Bulgaria❤

Hey :) Just a historical note - Bulgaria hasn't been part of the Soviet Union, it has had Russian influence and socialism/communism though
