Amazing! When I first heard the word Fediverse, it somehow triggered a memory about the Starr Trek Federation. I’ve been part of the IndieWeb movement for sometime, and somehow don’t recall that term being in fashion when I was more active there. Open web was.

Does anyone here remember the name of one of the early attempts to decentralize Facebook connections through federated servers? Somehow I have forgotten his name and the name of the project. I know he died very young under suspicious circumstances.

Other real world examples of federated systems: international passports, driver licenses, debit/credit cards, phone numbers, money, DNA, the human body (organs have to work together), etcetera.
