“We could have our 4chan posts on LinkedIn” had me dying laughing

“I get nightmare blunt rotation of social media” is the most underrated comment this whole episode 🤣

So mkbhd doesn't seem to fully understand the fediverse. You don't have to have all your stuff in one app. You can have it all separate but we your followers can choose to have all your content in one place if we choose to.

You should try to join the fediverse and learn how it works. It's great

Your instance tracks your followers, content and stuff. If you post it gets federated to all your followers and they can reply, like and boost. All these interactions will be federated back to you. So everything works like it should.
Users can choose what they want to see by following.
You can have multiple accounts per thing you want to do or you can do everything (posting/viewing) with the same account. It depends on your preference.

I think most people use a social media platform because of the people that are there. So please join and people will follow you!

It's nice seeing the wonderful Arc browser logo on your laptop. It's a nice browser if you have not used it before

"I'm the dad here, take my New Balance shoes" was the perfect response

I am both excited and scared for the future of ActivityPub (I'm a fediverse user). Don't want to see another EEE move on open projects.

"It's like...if hockey was only on Samsung TVs do I want to be able to get the choice of watching it on an LG TV instead." _Ooof_

What a thorough indictment of the absolute shitshow we've let the internet become.

I have multiple fediverse accounts on various platforms, most of which I've forgotten about. Very easy to make completely different personalities.

Really good hypothetical from Ellis, sure glad that’s not real 😳

History repeats (maybe)! The hockey/TV analogy is particularly insightful. The Fediverse if it ever fully matures, will turn posts into "programming" and apps into "cable TV stations". Instead of Facebook and Twitter, you'll have the Cooking App and the Sports App to collate all the content. Will it make things "better"? I dunno. But it'll make things different so that might be fun.

So the Fediverse will create more competition? Somehow I don't think tech giants will be in much hurry to adopt it.

the email protocol came at the right time for it to succeed, whereas this fediverse thing seems like it's two decades too late for what it's trying to accomplish.

If you have different personas or different audiences, you would create different channels. Most creators create channels based on the content they create, rather than have one channel for everything.

They should really research before talking about this stuff.

You can always have multiple accounts if you don’t want everything mixed.

Question: who makes money from decentralization? the "maintainers" of the infrastructure?
