Panelists:
Dr. Luciana Marques has a PhD in Linguistics from University of Colorado at Boulder. She specializes in experimental approaches to issues of first and second language speech production and perception, including L1 to L2 phonological transfer and research-based approaches to teaching pronunciation. She is also interested in Romance linguistics, psycholinguistics, historical linguistics and conversation design. She teaches undergraduate and graduate Linguistics and TEFL/TESL classes in the English Department at Colorado State University.

Michael Berman is professor of ESL and two-time coordinator of the English for Academic Purpose program at Montgomery College, the oldest and largest community college in Maryland, USA. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and over a dozen ESL textbooks and software applications, including Connect with English (McGraw Hill), Advanced Listening (DynEd International), and the American English Pronunciation Card and the Word Combination Card (Pro Lingua Learning). He has won national awards for both his teaching and materials writing. His teaching career has been varied and includes formative years spent at the Centro Venezolano Americano (a bi-national center) in Caracas, La Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila in Saltillo, Mexico, and the University of Illinois at Champaign, among other locales. In 2007, he founded Language Arts Press, an ESL publishing house dedicated to developing new models of higher ed ESL resources that are engaging, research-based and affordable for students. In 2021, Language Arts Press merged with Pro Lingua Associates, becoming Pro Lingua Learning, of which Michael now serves as the Chief Education Officer.
