We taught our beagle since he was little to follow both voice and sign instructions, so he would know when to come, eat, sit, stay leave etc. with voice or hand gestures. It was pretty useful if you couldn't speak or if he was far away, or when someone was doggy sitting him as we moved to a different country where people doesn't speak our native language. People was often impressed about how well our Bili could understand the hand gestures. Unfortunately he passed away very suddenly last month due to cancer, but he will forever be missed.

Lucky was fine coming in the house. But get him outside and he never paid attention to a direct command. He would get something and be howling away and one of us would have to go track him down and pick him up and drag him back inside. Even with 11 years in the exact same back yard he would never pay any attention unless he got the smell of a treat. That was the one and only negative about his all too short time with us.
