I love this. I get asked a lot too. I am a fast reader and I also homeschool. I try to read in the tub. I read every day too.

Before my work life and the internet, I was a fast reader. Now I am more matured, I like to take things slower. I do a lot of article reading (news, blogs, academic papers etc) and I LOVE film adaptations and Youtube, so my novel reading slows down but I am okay with that but I am always amazed and like hearing about other people reading journeys.

YES! #4! Thank you. My friends and family are always rolling their eyes at me because I carry a book with me every where I go, even if it is a quick trip or when I know I'll be busy. And I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one who will show up places ( appointments, meeting a friend for lunch, classes / work, etc) early just so I can read while I wait.

I normally think of myself as a slow reader... I read about 5 (give or take) adult novels a month, and for a 300 pg book it takes me somewhere between 6-10 hours to finish it. But I don't know how long it takes the average reader to finish a book, so I don't know where I fall.

omg your second grade picture is so cute! :D These are great tips! I also get this question a lot and my answers are largely the same. I think the biggest factor is making reading a priority, if it's something you genuinely want to do you'll automatically spend more time doing it. That does possibly come with having to cut back on other forms of media consumption. I tend to go back and forth between obsessively reading books and obsessively watching Netflix/Tv shows, but luckily I've recently had a pretty long streak of reading a lot :D

I love your reviews because there are so many middle grade and younger reads. Others don’t consistently speak or read as much about them I find.

I just discovered your videos a few weeks ago and I am just taken with them. Thank you for creating this content! I love my audiobooks. Though I get pulled into another direction with Podcasts a lot as well!

Great tips! I actually do a lot of these, but still read way less than you do. I really am not a movie fan, and can limit the television series, but unfortunately I'm obsessed with baseball . . .and that cuts into my reading time for half the year! I do bring my Kindle EVERYWHERE and read it whenever I can.

So excited to find this and you! I also: love. to. read. I commute by bike and listen to whatever I am reading on audiobooks as well as when I am driving, which helps me read more books - especially since there are always about five on my 'next' list. Cannot wait to keep following along and get ideas for my next reads! (Lincoln in the Bardo is at the ready, already!)

# 3 and #4--yep! .I also tend to have leave books everywhere so I always have something to read--in my back pack, the car, at work, the family room, living room, and yes the "quiet" room. Takes longer to read any one because I end up reading several at the same time but that's o.k. Kindle would be my #6 key to reading. I like it largely because it allows me to pick up at any time something that suits my mood. Something dark and mysterious? Done. Something light, funny, topical, or historical...done.

Good movie picks. We should exchange fav lists some time.

You did such a magnificent job, I'm inspired to read all of your recommendations--except for Laini Taylor. I've already read them :-)

James and the Giant Peach was formative for me as well! It was my first chapter book but in my case, my older brother read a chapter a night to me. Being five years older than me and a voracious reader, I saw him as cool and wanted to be a reader like him. It wasn't long until I too was reading voraciously--especially any Roald Dahl book I could get my hands on.

I'm always so anxious so I can't read in waiting rooms & commutes coz I'd be worried about how the meetings would go.
