The core of nursing is being able to make a viable assessment . . . the patient is blessed to have had you.

New grad nurse in neuro stepdown! Tip: It’s ok to have fun and be fun with your patients. My patients may have Parkinson’s, strokes, brain tumors and sometimes get depressed or just feel down because they can’t function how they are accustomed to. I try to brighten their moods, have a good time with them, and praise their progress.

You are so beautiful!!! I start my nurse residency for the ER next week. I am so excited to finally be a nurse and have autonomy from being a student and a nurse extern, but I am also incredibly nervous. I've had people try to deter me because I'm apparently "too quiet", but the ER is where I want to be. Thank you for sharing your tips and experience. I know this is an old video, but hearing experiences from new grads makes me feel so much better. Any more tips would be greatly appreciated 💖

New grad in Neuro ICU: biggest tip is ASK QUESTIONS!! That’s how you learn! Also if you and your preceptor don’t match(constant clashing or they don’t fit your learning style) ask for a new oneee

I can’t wait to be in your position. I’m starting LVN school on the 22nd but definitely plan on being an RN in the future. Thank you for this video and definitely will reference back when I’m a new grad nurse ❤️

I’m a new grad in a Peds ER. 1 month in and feel dumb asf every shift. However, I have noticed I’m more autonomous and initiate a lot of care now. Of course I still heavily rely on my preceptor. I have yet to deal with a trauma/critical care situation. It’s still so much to learn bc the ER is the place where you will see absolutely everything. Definitely have to practice grace 😊

I wanted to be in OR originally however the ER director was the one who got back to me and now I start December 5th! Definitely appreciate you saying it’s okay not knowing everything, that’s one issue I am trying to overcome lol I just gotta give myself time to learn.

Thank you so much for sharing your advice. I'm a new grad and a bit nervous about what specialty to work in... ED is intimidating but I love your insight about the dynamics on the unit and what to expect.

Thank you for your video. It's very helpful for me to hear you say to be gentle on myself. I am a new LPN and have been on orientation for 3 months now, it was supposed to be only 6 months. I'm so slow at passing meds, and I am so hard on myself, and I feel others sense that. I keep being told I'm too slow and need to hurry. I was told I would never be a good nurse because I'm too sensitive. This is all I've ever wanted to do, and I feel so stupid and dumb all the time. I've left a few times thinking, Maybe I shouldn't do this. I'm not sure if I just need more time or to call it quits.

I’m also a new grade nurse but 3 months in! How long was your orientation/preceptorship until you were on your own?!
