This scene breaks my heart. Helaena knew she had no chance to save Jaehaerys. You can see it on her face that she realized why she feared the rats. In a twisted sense, pointing Jaehaerys out was a mercy. They weren't stripped naked and tortured. It ended quickly and she saved the child she knew she could save. She got Jaehaera to safety before shutting down. Calling him "the boy" is a trauma response. She couldn't process it. She just clutched her daughter tightly and collapsed in on herself. Phia was incredible here.

For those who don’t know about the story in the books: Helaena and Aegon have three children: Jaehaerys, Jaehaera and Maelor (he is a baby during these events). At first Helaena offers herself instead of her children. Then they ask her which son she would prefer to die, so she says Maelor as he is still very young and barely aware of anything. Cheese then takes Maelor and says to him smt like “¿hear that? Your mother wants you to be killed”, while Blood decapitates Jaehaerys. After that Helaena can’t even look at Maelor in the face, knowing she chose him to die. I will not spoil further :)

Many of you propably did not understand what was actually happening in that scene. The neckleace offering was really good strategy. There was a chance to get rid of the intruders by paying them with something very valuable. One of them even thought for a moment that he would accept the offer. Unfortuately, it started the dialog revealing the real goal of the killers - "son for the son". So Heaena understood in that moment, that any begging or offering her own life had no point. She didn't lie and pointed straight at the boy so she wouldn't lose both children. The men would very easily find out her lie and attack the other child as well. She did not choose between children (like in book), she chose whether to lose one or both children. That's way she also held the scream for help all that way to Alycent room trying to desperately save the girl, at least. And finally, I understand that she reffered her son only as a boy, because it must have been terrible for her to fully accept what happened.

1:20 I get goosebumps just remembering it. I don't think he would be that surprised if she screamed or something. But it seems that she suffocates the emotion, letting only despair and fear take over. She didn't deserve it, she loved her children! Aemond should die, not little Jaehaerys.
