DJI Mini 3 vs. DJI Mini 2 Range Comparison | How Bad Is It?

This is a follow-up video addressing the range and signal strength issues I have been having and many others with the DJI Mini 3 Pro. This problem is not affecting everybody as some are getting phenomenal range. In this video, I do a range comparison of my DJI Mini 3 Pro versus the DJI Mini 2. This range comparison was performed on the same day about 5 minutes apart, same altitude, and same flight path. It shows how bad the range is on my DJI Mini 3 Pro compared to my Mini 2.

I was going to buy this drone but with the hit and miss lottery on the signal strength of the drone. I think I'll hold off on buying one until DJI fixes the issue. Having a solid RC connection is crucial to avoid any accidents one may have.
The features are great, I just can't justify the risk of it losing a connection like this. So DJI.. please fix!

I have the Mini 3 (FCC version.) I live on the water with a deck/dock and, depending on direction, almost 1.5 miles direct line of open space. I just came back inside from a test flight cut short by loss of visual contact (spotter using 10x binoculars) and a small helicopter in the area. Here are my results:

The drone started out at 130' altitude but I increased it to 200' due to purple martins being attracted to it. Out to 4, 000' rock solid connection even if I turned a bit to the side. At 5, 000' it remained solid but I noticed a drop to 3-4 bars for a few moments. At 6, 000' I was getting 3-5 bars. That is when I noticed that my hand position seemed to be just as important as directly facing the drone. I took it out past 9, 000' and had an OK connection (3-5 bars) at that distance but noticed the connection was VERY dependent upon direction of the controller (of course) AND angle of the controller. I was surprised that keeping the controller closer to a horizontal position actually improved the connection vs. keeping it angled upward.

every one talking about Air2/ Air2s drones, but in UK starting fron 2023 all Dji drones above 250 gr will be legacy drones, untill they get markings, otherwise you cannot fly almost anywhere in UK legaly or you will need special certificates. So mini 3 pro makes sence now, but range is poor(

Thank you for posting this video, I have exactly the same problem, I have recorded two videos on my channel, the video quality is stunning but I couldn’t fly farther than a kilometer, the drone loses connection and return to home gets automatically activated which is a blessing, so I haven’t lost the drone but I am unable to fly further as advertised, I am returning my unit and probably will wait to reorder, when they are back in stock.

I must be one of the lucky ones. Had a solid good 5km range on the countryside.

I returned mine because it was overheating when using quickshare and charging. No problem on flying all was pack.

Definitely send it back and wait! Whilst you are contacting DJI ask exactly what circumstances it can get 34 minutes flight time on the standard battery because it gets no where near. I said it in another video but if Autel quoted the range and battery as being x and y and it got no where near it people would lose their minds yet DJI tribe defend them, insane and as you say - as consumers this just isn’t good enough.

Hope that the US customers will start writing complaints and force DJI to either fix this in the next few weeks, or they will face a poor range both in FCC / CE is NOT ACCEPTABLE

My Mavic Air 2 looses connection too many times to count. I have tried it with different phones . Mine has lost connection in a valley but also with clear line of sight within 1/4 of a mile. It gets stressful when it disconnects.

I have also a range issue in the same open field same hight i fly in the past my mavic 2 zoom 8 km away from me and come back without lose connection and with my mavic 3 mini pro i lose connection after 1600 meters i contact dji and get the same answer like you get.. this is disappointing i sell my mavic 2 zoom to buy the mavic 3 mini and i think i made a mistake.. i think the mavic 2 zoom is a much better drone but the mini 3 is a better camera..

I've had similar issues. Thinking of returning it and getting the mini 2. How much of a quality drop is it going to the mini 2? Also is it much louder?

Makes me glad I just got the Air 2s, the Dji RC looks really nice but seems the antenna setup is disappointing. Is the regular n1 controller any better for the Mini3? It works really well with my Air 2s

As my mini 3 is my first drone, this video is quite an eye opener on the range that is expected with this kind of drone. Did a few more flights today at different altitudes and was loosing signal at 300-500m. Bit disappointing but hopefully will get fixed in the near future.
