I remember a friend who was going for engineering in college. He said his proudest achievement when he was younger was making his fave G2 Gel Pen into a mechanical pencil.

I just didnt have the heart to tell him lol

I encountered these in the wild a few years back and bought one. One of my biggest gripes was that the lead sleeve wiggled with mine. Your review seems to be a lot more positive, so I guess I got a defective unit.

This is great. I like the Pilot G-2, and seeing a mechanical pencil version of it makes it even better.

I usually bring a Lamy 2000 pencil or an Aurora 88 pencil. One day I came back to my desk and my friend had gifted me a G-2 pencil. I do love it. It joins my G-2 .38 and 1.0 gel pens. I almost can leave the G-2 on my desk and not worry about someone walking off with it.

The G-2 here looks almost exactly like a pair of extremely old Super Grip pencils I own that I used at high school 20+ years ago. Same design down to every detail except for the clip. And mine still work perfectly fine! I just had to change out the grips for new ones cannibalized from empty Pilot pens - they were the only thing that aged in a relevant capacity, and were oily and brittle and full of stuck lint. Hydrolysis hit the rubber hard

Nowadays I hear the Super Grip has a three-pronged brass clutch rather than a two-pronged plastic one. Sounds nice for a cheap mechpen without any lead wobble.

Seems like a good go to normal mechanical pencil! Ever since I got my first 0.3mm pencil, I don’t think I could buy anything different!

Pilot super grip has metal clutch. For the same price. Just dropping the bomb...
Although, maybe that model is not available in USA. I don't know...

does the cap fall off? I usually fidget with the cap of my old mech pencil, then it got loose and started to fall out easily.

The Pilot G-2 Mechanical Pencil is a good "budget/no frills" mechanical pencil; but I tried the "Pilot Delful Double Knock Mechanical Pencil" and that is soo much nicer =D.

The Japanese knows how to make NICE mechanical pencils that aren't costly. You can't go back to basic once you tried a nicer quality mechanical pencils.

Same with the Uni Kuru Toga Mechanical Pencil's.

A two pack of Pilot G-2 0.5mm pencils now sells for $7.99 on Amazon ... yikes! They cost less, per pencil, by the dozen. The Pilot G-2 pencil that I own is a freebie from an office supply store, and I have never encountered a jam with it in more than a decade of regular use. Pentel Super Hi-Polymer 0.5mm leads are my refill of choice. Erasers? They're for people who make mistakes. 😉

cm are not inches; numerous poor choices of words despite obvious obsession with writing instruments
